Late 2013 21.5" iMac SSD

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to upgrade my late 2013 iMac with an SSD drive... using the spot they left open for the fusion drive... but no matter where I go, I can't find any information about what type of port it is (I know its not mSATA) nor can I find any drives for sale for it.  The majority of blade-style SSD's that I come across are all mSATA.

Has anyone attempted this before?

I believe Apple's SSDs are proprietary-like (in that the interface is specific to Macs, but you can get 3rd party ones). And they also vary between year (so Early 2013 will be different to Late 2013).

Worth searching for Apple SSD rather than mSata or M2 SSDs, and then you can pin down your model/year combo.

I am an ACMT tech working at a PSP. Here are the Apple part #'s for all M.2 SSD drives available for your model. I hope this helps:

13. Flash Storage

  • 661-7108, 128 GB
  • 661-7507, 128 GB (Late 2013)
  • 661-7508, 256 GB (Late 2013)
  • 661-7509, 512 GB (Late 2013)
  • 661-8565, 128 GB (Late 2013)
  • 661-8566, 256 GB (Late 2013)
  • 661-8567, 512 GB (Late 2013)
  • 661-02756, 128 GB (Late 2013)
  • 661-02757, 256 GB (Late 2013)
  • 661-02758, 512 GB (Late 2013)

I appreciate that... but the least expensive one that I can find is $995... that's way out of my price range.

Yes, they are insanely expensive. I quoted someone today for a 512GB upgrade for his Macbook Air, which we have to special order from Apple. The SSD alone was $1,200 USD. Dude almost fell out of his seat when I told him the cost. He would be better off just buying a new Macbook Air with the 512GB SSD already in it!

    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.
