Getting a new Late 2015 27-Inch iMac

Recommended Posts

Sooo, I'm getting a new 27-inch iMac for christmas, the mid model upgraded to the i7.

Anyways besides the usual of getting ram from newegg, what else is recommended software wise. (Note I have two Mac's, just wondering since this is my first "retina" model.)

I intend on doing 3D work with Maya and Mudbox as well as graphics/web work with the Adobe suite of tools.

I'm also going to dual boot Windows 10 on this system, how well does Windows handle 5k?

Full spec:

Intel Core i7 4.0GHz Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz

8GB 1867MHz DDR3L (2x4GB)

1TB Fusion Drive

AMD Radeon R9 M390 w/2GB

High resolutions shouldn't be a problem.

Bootcamp is still a piece of crap when it comes to getting real drivers to work in Windows.  My advice when you have an iMac with those specs is to use VMWare or Parallels and use Win10 in a vm.

I've not had any issues. I don't use bootcamp past the initial driver pack though. I dual boot between two SSDs.

Personally I'd go for a 512GB SSD then purchase a RAID hooked up to the thunderbolt port for long term storage. Regarding the GPU, if you've got the cash then go for the M395X if you can.

I'd go top of the line, with SSD and if you can afford it then the M395X, but the SSD is a must for me.

What capacity of RAM are you upgrading to?
