The blurb, "ViFind is an El Capitan Menu Bar solution for Windows and it’s not just eye candy either, it’s a fully functional El Capitan menu bar implementation for Windows. Created by the dream team that brought you the original ViStart start menu, Windows X and Lee-Soft are back. Get the Apple style start button and access your start menu like Apple users do and get the El Capitan OSX menu bar and status menus."

My friend, Kee (better known as Lucifiar or Windows-X) and I wanted to create a more authentic OSX experience for Windows. Not one that only delivers eye candy but functionality too. So we worked on creating a Menu bar simulator. Some of the features in this build include:

  • Genuine OS X El Capitan FinderBar user experience
  • Real menu bar from actual software
  • Taskbar items with pinning item and notification support
  • Tray icon support including system icons
  • Date/Time display

This is only a test build really it's still quite buggy and I'm not sure what new features I will implement yet. I would love to get some suggestions and some feedback. It's been a while since I've been on Neowin - it was over 11 years ago in fact when I was developing a Messenger client on here. I really appreciated the honest feedback I got from the community here on Neowin back then so I'm here for some more.

Installation instructions:

1. Ensure your taskbar is set to the top of the desktop

2. a) Download the archive from here http://lee-soft.com/files/vifind_build201.zip

Extract all files to a folder and open the "ViFind.exe" executable

OR

2. b) Alternatively grab the official installer from ViFind Product Page

Thanks,

Lee

    • you know what really helps security? don't install anything out of the box...... give a screen and let users choose what they want installed out of the gate.....
    • I'm surprised it has taken this long for this kind of partnership.
    • That's a really cool design! Granted, I'm not in the market for a projector replacement, but I'd keep an eye out for that one... all I need is a spare two grand. 😆
    • Stock Windows 11 apps get a big change to improve user experience and security by Taras Buria If you have installed Windows 11 at least once, you probably know that the operating system's stock apps cannot run immediately when you get to the desktop. Some of them are not apps at all, just placeholders that, when opened, download the necessary files from the Microsoft Store. This approach helped Microsoft reduce the install media file and speed up Windows 11 installation. Now, however, Microsoft is changing that. Microsoft announced that the updated Windows Media releases of Windows 11 and Windows Server now include more recent versions of inbox applications. The company changed how this works for two reasons: security and convenience. Microsoft is improving the operating system security by eliminating potential vulnerabilities and exposures in out-of-date RTM versions of inbox applications. As for convenience, there is no longer a need to wait for the app to download its files before you can start using it. This saves bandwidth and time for the end user. Windows 11 version 24H2 now has the following 36 apps updated to the most recent versions: Alarms & Clock App Installer AV1 Video Extension AVC Encoder Extension Bing Search Calculator Camera Clipchamp Cross-Device Experience Host Get Help HEIF Image Extension HEVC Video Extension Media Player Microsoft Store Microsoft To Do Notepad Office Hub Paint Phone Link Photos Power Automate Quick Assist Raw Image Extension Snipping Tool Solitaire Collection Sound Recorder Sticky Notes Store Purchase App VP9 Video Extension Weather Web Media Extensions WebP Image Extension Windows Security Windows Web Experience Pack Xbox Game Bar Xbox Speech-to-Text Overlay On Windows Server 2025, the updated media have updated App Installer and Windows Security. If you want to get the latest Windows 11 install media, use the Media Creation Tool app from the official Windows 11 website. IT admins can get them from the Microsoft 365 admin center and the Azure Marketplace. You can read more about the updated inbox app experience in a post on the Microsoft Tech Community website.
    • The great thing about it being on an open platform, is that even without official support from KDE (but that would be cool) it could easily be done by a 3rd party.
