I think that's a Migration file from Windows 7? If so I don't think Windows 10 has an import tool, you'll have to manually move your stuff.

Manually... Please explain?  At least so far... I have been unable to open the MIG file.

Mr. Data, I had tried the MIG-Recover before... Figured I would try it again.  Unfortunately I get the attached error message... Help?

 Looks like it's corrupted then.

Means make a list of all your installed programs, and move all your personal files to an external, and upgrade then.

This is what they are recommending for Windows 10: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/windows-easy-transfer-is-not-available-in-windows-10

If you don't have your previous install around anymore, I don't know what to tell you.  I never use the tools for this reason.  Just copy documents and everything manually.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Looks good... Right?  One small detail...  Only PC>PC...  Doesn't work from an external hard-drive.  Bummer!

That mentions a hard drive, but it's a different version.  I would call them to verify.  They probably want you to use the easiest way, so that's why it's mentioned.  It might only be in the higher version, though.  No harm in asking...

Also, someone mentioned in a thread about:

  Quote

if you are able to get a Windows 8 (not 8.1) iso image or disc, you should be able to find migwiz (WET/Windows Easy Transfer) in X:\Support\Migwiz

Copy the Migwiz folder and its contents. You can put it on a USB and run this on Windows 7/8/8.1/10 and use it as we always have to backup and migrate your data/profile. Just note that moving 7 to 8 or later will not copy settings but will copy data.

You can use Windows Easy Transfer in Windows 10 - Microsoft just don't make it simple....

There is a full guide and all the files you will need to install and use it in Windows 10 available here - http://blog.techygeekshome.info/2016/10/windows-easy-transfer-for-windows-10/

Hope this helps.

    • No driver issues Three Microsoft apps not available through the Microsoft Store, i.e.; system apps required updates. I don't know if those three required system app updates after the OS update was a timing coincidence or a case of the OS update containing old versions of the three system apps and rolling back the previous current versions during the OS update. Anyway one of my utility programs took care of it and all is GTG.
    • If that was your point, then the examples you gave utterly failed to make that point. You kept harping on the Ryzen 9000 performance fix added with 24H2...do you not realize that Windows 10 has NEVER gotten that improvement? As it stands today, a Ryzen 9000 system running Windows 11 will absolutely spank the same system running Windows 10, with over 30% performance advantage. Somehow your takeaway from that is that Win11 is inconsistent? I guess you are right, Windows 10 is consistently slower on Ryzen 9000. For older Ryzen CPUs (which you also mentioned) It is well documented that Windows 10 and 11 have similar performance on AMD CPUs when VBS is set the same on both systems. VBS does have a 5-10% performance penalty, and is supported on both systems, but is turned off by default on 10 and on by default on 11, so for a fair test, you clearly want to adjust that both to match, in one way or the other. To be totally fair, even with VBS off, Windows 10 typically shows a 1-3% advantage over Windows 11, so if you want to talk some smack about 11's performance, use that as your talking point, not dishonest examples that show your eagerness to believe a narrative without looking into it.
