Update: nVidia may release THREE new GPUs in June instead of two, with the 1080 Ti rumoured to release alongside the other two.[3]

The latest in nVidia’s graphics card lineup will feature their new Pascal architecture, which promises enhanced power efficiency and floating point performance. Based on a GP104[1] core, the GTX 1080 will be nVidia’s flagship card and may use 8GB of GDDR5X [1] memory to achieve what is speculated to be as much as 384GB/s depending on memory clock over a 256-bit bus, which should eliminate bottlenecks and enable smoother high resolution gaming, plus post-120Hz refresh rates for high-end VR.

There is doubt whether nVidia may actually be able to equip a GPU for release in June considering JEDEC only finalised the GDDR5X standard in Q4 2015, but hope remains.[4]

I dont think Nvidia will be releasing hardware then, maybe a paper launch. I really don't think they will have GDDR5X unless they launch later like Q4 16. Seems like its more games trying to hold buyers off AMD cards that do seem like they are coming mid year. Either way this next gen of cards should be pretty good.

I wonder, if the standards apply. could you do some research (I'm not well versed in knowing where to snoop) on if they plan to release a mobile discrete card(s) for gaming laptops? I'll try what I can think of myself. (call Nvidia myself)

Ill do some digging, but I have a hunch they are working on something for Thunderbolt 3 or will partner with someone to show how that is going to be the new awesome. With thunderbolt 3 you can use a dock to drive a desktop GPU and use that with the laptop. I know that isnt a mobile solution, so surely they will release some new cards, but Ill see what I can dig up.

Not trying to derail my original thread, but I found some info and it is somewhat related. So it seems, once we see pascal we might see something new, otherwise the best to hope for would be a rebrand.

The website HardwareBattle.com recently published an article claiming that an update to the GeForce GTX 970M and 980M from Nvidia are in the works. These updated models are supposed to be the "GeForce GTX 970MX" and "GeForce GTX 980MX". Our investigations, on the other hand, suggest that this is not correct as confirmed by multiple independent industry insiders close to Notebookcheck. There will be no update to the existing GTX 970M or GTX 980M, but all our sources are still expecting the upcoming GPU generation ("Pascal") by the end of 2016/start of 2017.

The new Polaris architecture from AMD is to be expected mid-2016, but the chances of consumer notebooks shipping with the new AMD GPU before the start of 2017 will be small.

So far, there has been no reason for Nvidia to upgrade its unrivaled top chips GeForce GTX 970M and GeForce GTX 980M. And then there there is also the Geforce GTX 980, which is completely out of range for current AMD graphics solutions.

The refreshed mainstream graphics cards GeForce 920MX, GeForce 930MX and GeForce 940MX were announced in the Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks at CES this year (we reported). These should be available soon and are still based on the 28 nm Maxwell architecture.

I have an older Radeon R7 250 and it's showing it's age.  It's the only thing left to upgrade in my system.  I wanted to get a GTX 960 but with the new cards around the corner, I think I'll save up for the Pascal equivalent of GTX 970

This is what I hate about pc hardware

4 months ago I built a new PC and used a 980 GTX K|ngp|n

Now these are coming out - and I wont want the 980 anymore.

Between this and golf - the voices in my head telling me to buy stuff are killing me !

Hopefully it will result in price drops for GTX970 (which is still  closer to $300USD than $200USD, even for 2GB versions).

I've come to understand that they tend to release a mobile version albeit crippled due to, of course, heat issues. I may lose some pipelines and some of the massive features of the desktop versions, but usually they do make a mobile version for gaming laptops. I'm basically getting all warm and fuzzy at the prospect of a mobile gaming card. I do lose the pipelines of course and some other features but still rocks in terms of gaming.

I've been scratching my head over how to upgrade my system. I have a 970 running at 4k resolution and, at times, it shows it's limits. 4GB is barely enough and I've since learned that 970 only technically has 4GB of memory which doesn't help running high resolutions.

You mean 3.2GB  -

I get you, Zagadka; the display is the holdback in my own case (4K is a space-eater in terms of display size), therefore, the GPU will be ready before the display itself is.  I'm hoping for Pascal because it will drive down the cost of GTX9xx (especially GTX960) so I can single-stage (not two-stage).

    • New PowerToys update fixes memory leaks and other issues by Taras Buria Another bug-fixing update is available for PowerToys version 0.100. After releasing version 0.100.1 with a bunch of bug fixes and patches, Microsoft pushed version 0.100.2 to address two important issues with one of Command Palette Dock's features. With PowerToys 0.100.2, Microsoft fixed the performance meter displaying incorrect values and memory leaks, which are particularly unwanted things in the current situation with overpriced PC hardware. Here is the changelog: Reverted a Performance Monitor dock refresh change that forced item refreshes on every metric update Fixed a memory leak in the Performance Monitor dock extension by reusing stable network upload/download band items instead of creating new list items on each refresh For those unfamiliar, Command Palette Dock is a relatively new addition to PowerToys. It is a taskbar-like tool that you can keep on top of the screen to pin various useful widgets, commands, and more. It can display time, weather, your PC's performance metrics, and more. Microsoft introduced the Command Palette Dock in March 2026 in PowerToys 0.98. Microsoft has dedicated documentation for Command Palette Dock, and you can check it out on the official Microsoft Learn website. You can update PowerToys to the latest version by going to Settings > General and clicking "Check for updates." Alternatively, you can download the installer from GitHub using this link. In other news, Microsoft is working on a new window-management utility for PowerToys. Called Alt Window Cycle, it will let you use the Alt + ` shortcut to switch between different windows in a single app. You can learn more about the tool here.
    • You did take leaf out of Trumps book already and had brexit - only to harm yourself. The same goes with this AI nonsense. The obvious solution for these companies is to move their head office to Brussels. I can see quite much irony there... 🙂
    • Thank gawd AT&T never worked with the US gov....
    • Wonder if they are trying to slow down Linux traction (not saying this is the only factor) in the consumer space. With the most pressure probably being steam deck/box, etc.
