My options to play Ocarina of Time on my Wii U?

I want to get into the Zelda series, and I've decided to start on the first 3D game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

 

I have a Wii U with some Wii U Pro Controllers and some Wii Remote Plus with the Nunchuk attachment.

 

I do not want to buy a Nintendo 3DS.

 

What are my options in playing Ocarina of Time on my Wii U?

 

I believe my only option is to buy the game on the Wii U Virtual Console but I thought I'd post here, in case I've missed any alternatives.

I see that you have mentioned the desire to play on the Wii U multiple times, but in my experience, the game is best with PC emulation. If you have a PC controller and this sounds interesting to you, I'd suggest you look into Project64.

VC is the only option on Wii U.

If you don't want to go the route of doing things through the virtual console, you can buy Zelda Collectors Edition for GameCube and use Nintendont in Wii mode. It has all the games pre-windwaker and can usually be found at CEX and then resold back to them once you're done.

Sadly, Wii U cannot play GameCube games on Wii Mode. He'd have to buy an original Wii or GameCube to play Zelda Collectors Edition.

and is even compatible with the Pro controller (vibration and all)

 

love being able to play all my GameCube games on my WiiU this way

 

(though I don't know how much can be discussed here as you either need to rip your disks or acquire the ISOs elsewhere )

I played Zelda: Ocarina of Time on 3DS before, and it was so easy to use arrow and bow with motion sensor.

Oops, my mistake! I had forgotten all about the homebrew scene on the Wii.

 

Perhaps I should pay more attention next time.

Discussion of stuff like Nintendont is fine here. Just don't point people to copyrighted WAD files or ISOs.

Most likely.

 

I think it's even possible to do homebrew directly from the Wii U using some internet browser exploit. But I don't think they care enough to bother fixing it.

Emulation is fine, too as long as you don't tell people where to get the ROMs without paying for the games.

 

Some people may notice that it looks like I've posted on GBATemp quite a bit, too. Yep, that is me. I don't don't advocate illicit ROMs there, either.

Not necessarily. The VC version of OOT is the same as the Collector's Edition version, which is known for its slight audio issues, crashes (Slightly more than the N64 version), & minor visual glitches.

 

Sure, the issues are not too big, but in certain scenarios it could affect gameplay.
