fixed my Windows 10 file explorer

Recommended Posts

Very mysterious how and why my file explorer broke suddenly.

I was using a USB, copying some System files.

Suddenly the Copy window closed without completing.

Right after, my file explorer stuffed up, running ungodly slow.

I was trying anything to repair my Windows 10.

I suspected corrupted System file.

I ran from Command prompt, sfc /scannow, which said that there were corrupted files, but it could not replace them all.

I did the complicated DSIM .... / on-line/ restorehealth -- whatever.

After a few times of these routines, sfc reported no bad System files.

[I want to say a big Thank you to this guy on Neowin:]

But still, file explorer did not act normally.

I finally watched a helpful video suggesting to open Task Manager, File/Run new task.

I looked thru Services and entered this: C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchIndexer.exe /Embedding

Then in Services I made sure Windows Search was enabled for my account.

I'm not sure which, if not all steps fixed the file explorer problem.

Everything is back to fast and snappy.

I am very grateful.

Amazing how we can sometimes fix things even tho we don't know what the hell we are doing ....
