HP Spectre X2 Detachable - How to charge?

Recommended Posts

HI All,

I am looking at buying the Spectre X2, however HP's implementation of Type C charging seems to be slightly, yet critically, different from the vast majority! The macbook, most phones, and google's Pixel all charge by Type C, over 5V at various currents. The X2 also charges with Type C, however seems to use 15V - this most annoyingly prevents use of nearly all of today's USB3 Type A chargers!

Does anyone here have any experience trying to charge the X2 Detachable with either non-HP/third party chargers (e.g. Anker) or external batteries (e.g. are there any 15v external batteries?).

Thanks for any help!

Page 35 would seem to suggest it can charge on 5V, but its just gonna be really slow as yes it's designed for 15v

But that's the same as others... Google Pixel is 20V... https://store.google.com/product/universal_type_c_60w_charger (click see all specs)

And MacBook is 14.5V

I think all these can charge at 5V but will take more if possible and have the proper power adaptor. HP specs say its 45W, that google one is 60W and the Mac is 29W, far more than any standard phone wall charger.

So none have phone charger style adaptors and noneuse 5V as the primary... I doubt any laptop/tablet would.

But all see to say they'll accept 5V if that's all that's provided.
