sitzmar Share Posted September 5, 2001 Does anybody know of a partitioning tool that works with windows xp, aside from partition magic 7? I really need to resize and move my main partition to do a clean xp install, but there doesnt seem to be any tools that will work. :( ~Ponch0

me101 Veteran Share Posted September 5, 2001 FDisk is only used for creating fresh partitions. Basically, there are really not too many free partition managers like the one listed here, as Partition Magic etc have essentially the market to themselves, I really wish that Microsoft had included a split extension to fdisk as it's one of the most requested features that XP is missing! sitzmar Author Share Posted September 5, 2001 yea, no kidding... that would have been very useful. Either that, or not mess with the stupid ntfs format. :)
krmathis Share Posted September 5, 2001 I would suggest you try The Partition Resizer. It`s a nice freeware tool for moving and resizing partitions. I use it myself and I think it`s great.
sitzmar Author Share Posted September 5, 2001 I looked at the FAQ on their website and noticed this: Q: Is Partition Resizer compatible with Windows NT / Windows 2000? A: Depends. It does not run under Windows NT/2000, and it does not resize NTFS partitions, but it can move Windows NT/2000 partitions and it does not damage your Windows NT/2000 installation. Can anyone confirm that this works with windows xp? BTW, I am running on an ntfs partition.
me101 Veteran Share Posted September 5, 2001 Usually, when I use partition manager from zeleps, I boot using a win98 boot disk, and then run do what i have to do, this way, nothing gets in the way.

SlashDot14 Share Posted September 5, 2001 Just buy Partition Magic 7 because not everything in life is free. And if you really can't afford it, just download it from someplace on the net since the demo is not functional.

sitzmar Author Share Posted September 5, 2001 Dammit, i wish powerquest would just put out a damn patch for version 6! There is no reason to force people to buy a whole new version when a simple patch would make everyone happy. But noooooo.... gotta keep those stock prices up... AARRGGG!
Chillphill Share Posted September 6, 2001 BootIt NG is free for a 30 days. But I think PM7 is better. And you can get it with a serial.
