Change Serial / VolumeID of an exFAT-USB-Drive?

Hello!

Recently I reformated one of my USB-Drives from FAT32 to exFAT, thus changing the volume-serial / volumeID (not the label/name!!).

Unfortunately I have software on that Drive which seems to rely on the volume-serial as a kind of copy protection, so I need to change it back to the original one.

My first try was sysinternals volumeID but this only works for FAT and NTFS. And this is the same for all other software I have found.

Does anyone know a solution?

Unfortunately simply going back to FAT32 and recreate the original volumeID by using the known tools is not an option.

PS: Even mkfs.exfat seems to be unable to do the job.
