Anyone managed to get MS project working with their visualstudio hosted TFS?

I signed up for the free account, it gives you a single team of up to 5 people. So I've added the URL to project 2016 as a team project and can see it (signed into my account from project 2016). However when I go to link them I get error TF80070 which is a useless error code apparently. Searched the net and found it a lot with it being due to possible something wrong with the project file (it's a new project file so it's not this) or with the version of the TFS compared to the office version (I'm using office 2016 and project 2016, I don't know what version of the server MS hosts with but I would assume it would be 2016) so don't think getting the office integration pack would do anything (plus MS removed it from their site).

Anyone ever tried this or got it working, or is it another case of MS project just being a humongous joke? I can't believe that you cannot just alt+tab out of it, you have to alt-tab twice otherwise you don't change applications.
