How do I hide/prevent certain apps from updating in play store?

Recommended Posts

I bought an Acer tablet from Sam's Club and it of course has a bunch of bloatware on, including keyboards for Korean and multiple languages, which can not be removed, but they show up in the play store as update-able. The issue is that I have them set to never update, and despite the other apps supposedly allowed to automatically update, they don't. So I need a method to hide the apps that I do not want to update from the play store. The only thing that I can find from searching is a program that someone wrote to do exactly what I need, but he want's to charge for it, and due to the age of the posting I am not sure it will work with Android 5.

Only way to do is root it. And after it gets rooted, you are able to uninstall them or freeze them.  If you freeze them, the icons will not show up on your homescreen. The apps will not get updated until you unfreeze them.

Look and see what version of Android on it, then see if you are able to update to the latest version of Android on it. Then root it.

Otherwise root it if you like Android 5 the most.

Thanks for the input, it does not appear to be any root for this tablet Acer B3-A20 running 5.1, unless I missed something somewhere!

Acer Iconia?  If so, try this:

After you rooted it, Use an app called Titanium Backup (from app store) so you are able to uninstall, freeze, or disable any app you don't want. Make sure to backup first before take any action. Note: This app requires rooted device in order to use uninstall, freeze, or disable. These features may not work on non-rooted devices, only backup/restore.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I'd forgotten about KingO! I used it on an older cell phone in the past and it worked like a charm!
