Windows 10, WiFi and Wired connection at same time

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the default behavior for Windows 10 if you're running both WiFi and Ethernet on the same network at the same time?

My laptop connects both and if I don't remember to shut off WiFi when I'm at home it seems to pick one at random.  Is there any way to change the binding order? Or should I just leave it as-is and try to remember to turn the WiFi off when I get home?

Update: I might be wrong, but I think the OS is doing some form of round robin networking.

Typically, Windows (in general; 10 did NOT change this) will use free networks it knows about, and does not care - what changed is metered (non-free) networks - and this is with 8.x (not 10).  You can use a wireless network to augment a wired network (even with 10); I prefer to do exactly that with notebooks, due to their paltry 100 mbps connections - however, I don't do that with my desktop (gigabit wired connection).
