Remote NDIS Connection query for Windows 10.

Hello folks!

 

Please refer to the enclosed pictorial description, & help suggest a way to make Win 10 remember a "Yes" setting on a forever basis.

 

Secondly, why do the Network No. keep depicting an incremental trend upon every single instance of using a Remote NDIS connection to connect my PC to Internet? Can't this be made stable on a permanent basis?

 

I often use my Smartphone Phone to tether the Data Carrier connection for the Internet access on my Laptop.

 

In nutshell, how to have a better control over a Remote NDIS connection & how to stabilize the Network Number for the same? 

 

Inputs will be sincerely appreciated.

Windows use network awareness service to determine what network its on, if its been on that network before, etc.. If your talking about tethering your phone via usb or bluetooth I have no exp in doing that and why it would change the network name/number if your connecting to the same phone all the time?

This should only occur if you are connecting to a different network each time.  By different network, I mean with different DHCP servers, gateways, and or DNS servers. 

 

My guess is that your carrier has several different networks and you get connected to different one each time based on availability or location.

 

Short of switching carriers I cannot think of a way around this.

Hello goretsky!

 

I access the Data carrier network from my Home & have manually set the IP Address, Subnet mask & default gateway; & DNS addresses are those of Data carrier's network only!

 

Manual configuration has helped with an earliest identification of the connected Network , otherwise...."Identifying Network" used to languish against the respective Network icon for over a long period. 

 

Today it is showing up as "Network 10"!

 

I do not use any propriety software/application to connect my Phone with my Notebook but only via a plain,simple USB Connection.

 

I also couldn't find a way to terminate/disconnect the Remote NDIS connection from my Notebook either & have to do so via Phone interface only.

Hello,

 

Under Windows 10 you can do a search for "Network reset" which will restore the network stack to its default state, getting rid of all additional entries and settings.  You could try doing that, and then configuring the network connection to work the way you want it to.  As long as you do not many any changes or additions there should be no more prompts for connections.  Oh, since you mentioned you're using USB tethering, be sure to plug the smartphone into ths same USB port on the computer each time, just in case that makes any difference.
