Thank you so much for coming to check out Pillars of Eternity II. If you are a returning backer - thank you, thank you, thank you. If you are new, welcome! We're glad to have you.

The Pillars of Eternity II Team

Eothas has returned. The god of light and rebirth was thought dead, but he now inhabits the stone titan that sat buried under your keep, Caed Nua, for millennia. Ripping his way out of the ground, he destroyed your stronghold and left you at the brink of death. To save your soul, you must track down the wayward god and demand answers - answers which could throw mortals and the gods themselves into chaos.

Your hunt takes you to the Deadfire Archipelago. Located even farther east than the colonies of the Eastern Reach, Deadfire comprises hundreds of islands spanning thousands of miles - ranging from lush tropics to barren deserts. Many of these lands have never been charted, while others are inhabited by rich native cultures and a new wave of colonial settlers.

Obsidian Entertainment proudly presents the sequel to our crowdfunded and critically-acclaimed role-playing game, Pillars of Eternity. Welcome to Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. With Pillars II, we are revisiting the rich narrative, beautiful environments, and tactical combat that made Pillars of Eternity one of the highest-rated PC games of all time. Having a development team of over 77,000 people made the first game possible, but your feedback and community support made it amazing! Our team wants to take you on a second journey to Eora. We couldn't be more excited to get all of you involved in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Well I hope there aren't any early bird tiers or you guys leave me some because apparently work blocks fig.co so I won't be able to back this until I get home tonight.

I haven't ever gotten around to playing the first one, maybe I should do that.

I never finished it, rofl.

I found it to be less fun than Wasteland 2 but it was ok and really I'd like to support more isometric RPG development (I'm looking forward to the new "Torment: Tides of Numenera" game also)  so it was "good enough" to back a second.  For me it's definitely not a $60 game or anything but at less than $30 it's a solid value (It also doesn't hurt that I get the $5 obsessed backer discount for backing entirely too many crowd funded games, rofl)  Plus here's hoping the new one fixes some of the things that annoyed me about the first.  I generally enjoy Obsidian games though and want to help them make more (unless/until one truely disappoints... which the first one didn't do that bad)... especially DRM-free ones.

Here's a link to my thoughts on the first one if anyone is interested.

I skimmed through it again and it's still pretty much valid.

I would note that there were complaints from others about the lack of companion AI but that was added in a later patch.

Backed the first one out of Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale nostalgia, never played it that much in the end. Maybe I'm just not the same person that marveled at these games back then...

I have higher hopes for Tides of Numenera, with its very strange setting and turn-based combat. PoE2, ... I'm sure it'll be great and have a lot of backers like last time. Just not my cup of tea anymore.
