Dual monitor adapter?

Recommended Posts

Good morning, i am getting a new laptop for work to replace my tower that i run 2 monitors with.  the laptop they are sending me doesn't have dock ability, that being said can someone link me to something that will allow me to continue to use my 2 monitors. i have 2 of these E Series E2011H 20 inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor with LED Display. I use one as dvi and the other as vga, could i get maybe a usb to dvi adapter for 2 monitors or usb to vga to for 2 monitors and just keep the laptop screen closed,  please advise on options.

Thank you

Not sure about a USB->DVI adapter, but does the laptop not come with a display port, or a mini display port? You could then get an adapter for that which would probably be easier.

Yeh check the laptop model, most, especially business ones come with a couple of output, a lot still have VGA so you can connect to projectors and things as a lot of businesses are slow to upgrade those.

My work one is nice and new M.2 SSD etc... and has DP and VGA.

So unless its a really small like 11" thing, I'd expect it to have multiple outputs.

Hello,

The Dell E Series E2011H monitors only have DVI and VGA inputs, so you would want an adapter that that converts the output from the laptop into two DVI monitors.  There are a few devices on the market which do this:

Which one you get depends on what is compatible with your new laptop.

Most descent laptops have dual outputs; VGA and HDMI.

Some have DVI ... but you can use USB if you want as long as the monitor has USB support.  Even the USB to VGA adapter... something like that.

There are many ways to do connect such as:

HDMI to USB

VGA to USB

VGA to HDMI

HDMI to HDMI

VGA to VGA

Whatever you need, they are available at the online retail stores such as monoprice, amazon, etc.

ok the mode is Dell Latitude 3570.  that being said what would be the best option so i can use my current 2 monitors with this laptop and keep the screen closed?

Thanks

I see you have HDMI and VGA...   You can use HDMI cable hook up to a monitor that has HDMI and VGA cable hook up to other monitor.

Make sure check the option in the power settings for lid close.

Tazminator, would it be better to get a UBS to DVI something like this per goretsky suggestions:

https://www.tripplite.com/displayport-to-dvi-splitter-multi-display-adapter-3840x1200-60hz-2-port~B156002DVI/

or

http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/digital_se/

or is there a better options.  since the monitors i have only do DVI or VGA.  i want to be able to use the monitors to be able to do different things on each not just mirror them.  Not sure what one to go with I'm sure they do the same thing.

Thanks!

Either that or you can use this adapter for cheaper way:

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=2080

Not sure what DVI type you have, i mean DVI-I or DVI-D, etc.   If you know, you can change the type on that site that fits your needs.

Tazminator, just so I am understanding your correctly if buy 1 of these:

https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=102&cp_id=10231&cs_id=1023104&p_id=2404&seq=1&format=2

then plug my second monitor into the VGA port on my laptop I will be good.   I will be able to close the lid and use both of my monitors the way I have it now on my desktop?

so I would be spending roughly $4.25 vs  $80 plug for one of the other items, is this correct?

Thanks for all your help!

Yes  $4.25 cable ...  that's it.     Plus a fee for shipping unless they offer free shipping.

Then use your VGA cable for VGA use.

The close lid option shows here in black box mark:

Then select "Do nothing" for closing lid.
