Need Advice For Graphics Card For Autocad 2011

Recommended Posts

Hi, I hope I can get an answer quick so I can buy the part for my customer.

A woman I help with her computer issues uses Autocad 2011 and does not want to upgrade to any new version because it just works for her.

I know we are talking about a 6 year old program now and graphics cards have advanced a lot during that time so I assume any card from 2017 should handle this with no issue.

Autocad site has certified cards listed but they are older and are the Quadro line. I want something modern from 2016-2017 and hopefully non Quadro so not much money has to be spent.

i found this card https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125919

Would this work?

I also found a AMD Radeon card that could work and is less money

Well would love any suggestions if there are any other cards out there. She does not game and they heavy duty program is Autocad, next would be Photoshop CS3 and then stuff like Office 2007, Dropbox, Chrome, IE 11 and things like that. Again software is not the latest.

Thank you

That could be one of the most cost effective ways of doing it,

I actually only visited this thread to throw in a suggestion for a mid-high end gaming card with sufficient ram

I had autocad 2011 (but it turned out to be overkill for my needs) and am currently using a GTX760 as my main gpu

Thanks for replying. Are you saying the first card I listed could work OK?

I'll go out on a limb and say yes. It'll work, no idea about how well though, mine dragged somewhat on the 760, my own fault, wasn't unbearable, but was slightly frustrating due to the 'input' not matching the 'on screen' (I wouldn't listen to anyone about not needing autocad, until I finally caved in, for my, turned out photoshop does what I needed well enough) (also an admission of ignorance on my part)

I dont want to spend no more than $120.00 if possible to be able to have it work well

No Pixar 3D Rendering. She uses Autocad for landscape architecture

I did think about used but she wants new. Im actually looking at this card listed here. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814487297

That may work for her because I just remembered she is using a Nivida GeForce GTX 750 Ti right now and autocad works OK. There is also a Ti version that contains 4GB DDR5 memory which is not bad either. So this upgrade would make a big difference I feel

Ti's are good, but I'd recommend at least another gig of ram on it just for longevity purposes

Eventually She's going to run out,

I have this one

And couldn't figure out why I kept slowing down when I have a large file open for a long time...

(That was when I realised the 3d type renderings I needed, were possible to create in photoshop, and autocad was complete overkill  for my needs)

(Ironically, It has worked like a dream once I came to my senses so in my case at least, I learned a lesson on how much I didn't know)

Hello,

Would either of the following workstation cards be an option?

PNY Quadro P400 VCQP400-PB 2GB 64-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 Low Profile Video Cards - Workstation - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133647

AMD FirePro W2100 100-505980 2GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 x16 Low Profile Video Cards - Workstation - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814105065

They should both be certified for AutoCAD, although you'll probably want to check with Autodesk to confirm AutoCAD 2011 compatibility and find out if one is preferred for architectural landscaping.

You have not actually described a problem that needs solving.

What is wrong with the 750 Ti currently in use?

The optimized Quadro drivers will be at most double the performance so it is rare to get good value from a Workstation GFX solution unless it is proven in a specific situation.

If she doesn't do any 3D rendering then more RAM on the video card won't be good for anything since it is used for hi-res texture data.
