Steal on hard drives!

Recommended Posts

Well just don't be surpised is all I'm saying. I think its funny how you are all so indignant. I mean common, there is no way hard drives would be sold at that price, that is cheaper than it costs to make them.

Remember the old adage, that if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

It's a fact of life that it seems a few folks here have yet to get used to.

GJ

Just because the price was ridiculously low doesn't mean it was a mistake, but since it was so low it was only smart to assume that it was a mistake, and take advantage of that price while we could. That doesn't mean everyone here was stealing like some people are trying to say. Ubid gets away with peoples money everyday, is that ok?

go and checkout some of the auctions, sometimes the listed retail price is higher than the manufactured suggested price to get people to think they are makeing a nice low bid when they are really bidding way to much I've seen people bid more than the retail price for factory referbs. is that fair and honest?

I was happy when I saw that someone might get over on ubid, but like you said it just looked to good to be true, and IMO it wasn't a mistake, but a calculated move. how many new customers do you think they have because of this now? this thread has 14,546 views, and 474 replys. now if 1000 of those were new customers who made a new purchace I'd call that good business, but dishonest.

hah, it has kept me entertained at work. every month or so, it seems, there is a big to do like this. like hard drives from dell, the axium mistake, and some other ones. it's just all about how the company handles it, and for now it seems like ubid is doing a pretty crappy job.

OK people? let?s talk basic business. Anyone who's been billed will likely end up with a credit or a refund. If not, you're sure to have a legal standing for litigation. uBid knows this, so stop acting like they did this on purpose. This is a headache for them, and no doubt they are waiting for the countless threats of lawsuits, ect. They made a mistake, and considering their long history of foul-ups, so did every last moron who tried to buy these harddrives at these clearly insane prices. Granted, I think uBid should go out of business, but not just for this. They should drop dead for their long history of errors just like this. Their customer service is non-existent. It?s clear the company has no idea of how to conduct itself, so it should do the world a favor and go away.

However, I am seriously amazed all the same. No really, you'd have to be a bonafide idiot to think that these were legitimate prices in the first place. This isn?t like it happened with Newegg. If that were the case, I would almost be able to understand the anger, but I would still take up for Newegg as errors are not common to them. Instead, this happened with a repeat offender. Please.. attempt to recognize the distinction. That?s like going to a sleazy used car dealer, buying a rust-bucket pile of garbage masquerading as a car, and then bitching when you have problems with it. What a stunning display of intelligence that must be. Now, some of Neowin?s members can always be counted on to pull some brainless posts devoid of any intelligence. While I wouldn?t call this thread a new low, it?s clearly gunning for that honor. Really now, how many of you actually thought you?d get away with this?? Perhaps it would be best if some of you take the advice of that word perfect support tech we?ve Box up your PC and get rid of it, ?cuz you?re too stupid to even own one.pid to even own one. Interestingly, most of the people bitching seem to be too young to be out on their own, and as such wouldn?t know the first thing about the real world, much less how business runs in it. Most of you who frequent Neowin claim to know more than your parents about computers. If that?s true, then you knew upfront this was a screw-up on uBid?s end. To claim otherwise not only invalidates whatever expertise you think you have in the area of computers, but also reveals glaring na?vet? on your part. Now a bunch of you are complaining over something you knew wasn't true from the start. What sense does that make? Don?t we have enough whining on Neowin? What a bunch of sore losers and retards. But there is an entertaining angle to all of this: some of you clowns have this asinine uBid should honor it's price ?alliance" or whatever that hell that?s supposed to be. Yea, uBid is so freaked out now that a massive alliance with a staggering grand total of roughly 15 kids or so thinks they should just give away expensive PC equipment just because they say so. Yeah. Right.

To all the people complaining over this: don't worry. You really are victims. That is, victims of your own exaggerated sense of entitlement. Next time you see an error like this on a web store, do yourself (and not coincidentally, the rest of Neowin) a favor: check your reality deficit disorder at the door and try employing some b:hmmm:ogic for a change.

Our allience is powerful, and can't be shak:rolleyes:yes:

don't get angery

it's just a bunch of people who got over excited at the possiblity of a deal to good to be true.

but I'm glad to see there is someone who sees how often ubid makes these "mistakes"

stupid as we may be I still feel ubid should have cut their losses, and honored the deal

we didn't make the mistake ubid did

Our allience is powerful, and can't be shaken

Correction: Your so-called alliance is a fad, nothing more. It has no power, unless you care to demonstrate any of this elusive power you speak of. As for whether or not it can be shaken, who cares? This time next month, only the sore losers will still have that in their sigs. Kindly get over yourself and move on.

You guys should try taking your own advice, because ?excited? isn?t the word I?d choose to describe it.

but I'm glad to see there is someone who sees how often ubid makes these "mistakes"

But you guys didn?t? You deserve this headache for not bothering to be responsible and do a llittle research on uBid before purchasing. Hell, even word of mouth might have been enough. Tell me, would you buy a Packard Bell PC? Or eMachines PC? I?m told those are pretty ?good? bargains too.

stupid as we may be I still feel ubid should have cut their losses, and honored the deal

we didn't make the mistake ubid did

Correction genius: it was a technical error. uBid did not make an error. When uBid goes "That's right! 160Gb HD for ~$30! That's not a typo!!!.......wait, nevermind" That's an error in customer service. uBid didn't even know about the problem until a flood of cheap ###### placed an abnormal amount of orders for an item not typically so popular. Computer parts don't just suddenly become popular overnight and get a mad rush for the door. Say, when your PC blue screens, are you one to stand up and say: "opps! my bad!!"? Uhuh.. Besides the fact that errors are a fact of life, they already have a policy in place to address it. To expect typos to be non-existent is to expect you to apply a simple spell checker to your posts. Granted, you?re not selling anything, and it?s a good thing too. Otherwise, you?d have to ?cut your losses?.

I?m, like, so impressed with your:pinch:Oh wait, no I?m not. :pinch:

UPDATE

I got my cancelation email as well as many others.

BUT i was smart enough to put in 2 seperate orders!!

my first one was for 1 special edition 160GB which got cancelled...

my 2nd one was for 2 160GB non-special drives at the *incorrect* price...

its still pending after about 36hours!!!

AND on top of that, my card was charged the *incorrect* amount of $47.

since it was charged, logically it should ship tomorrow.

im keeping my fingers crossed and hope they ship!! once they ship, the transaction

is complete and they cant do anything about it except to have the mail service return

the package mid-transit. that would cost them money to do so, so they might as well

let me have the drives!!

I'll update this when i get back from work and check my email and the status page!!

check this out: http://store.yahoo.com/livewarehouse/mums33830.html

its no mistake, i called yahoo and they confirmed the price and assured me it was NOT incorrect!!

also, its been up on their site since friday, they would have caught a price error by now.

the cheapest i found this was via pricewatch and pricegrabber was ~$45 w/ shipping!!

and w/ $5 priority mail thats a true steal!! :) :) :)

wow, this thread took a turn for the worse since i was last here. I think this post needs to take a trip to the cemetary. ;(

Ehh...what's the point. Idiots got duped, now they're crying about their just desserts.

Stupidity should be physically painful. I guess I will just have to settle for:

?A fool and his money are soon parted.?

Truer words were never spoken on this threa;). ;)

On the plus side, this explains all the whining; the truth hurts, if not physically.

Haha, no kidding, give it a rest people, you gave it a try, they aren't going to honor it. Do you even look at yourselves and realize how much you look like ###### (a strong word, maybe, but it makes my point)? I am not saying anyone is, but look at yourself, you want to do something that will hurt someone else, just for your own gain. What ever happened to people being nice and trying to help each other out? You don't "deserve" something because someone made a mistake, if anything, you should have tried to tell them sooner and not share the info. You guys really do look pitiful.

Just remember, someday you will make a mistake, do you want hundreds of people trying to take advantage of your for their own gain? I don't think you would. Lets try to act nice and civilized.

i don't know. most people here don't seem to be complaining. they simply tried to get a drive at some posted price. it's a simple risk calculation and utility maximization problem. they gave it a shot, it didn't work, and they've moved on.

Most people, yes, but some are still going on about how they are going to sue for drives and crap lol, it would cost more to get a lawyer and all that than it would to buy the drive new

Shame that's not in the UK. I'd buy one!

we're not going on so much about the drives, Its more about the customer service quality. I for one didn't actually think it was a real deal, but I was hoping we could at least get a few shipped... My biggest complaint is the lack of email or phone call notifying order cancelation.. its now a day and a half after i ordered almost, and I still have yet to recieve a cancelation email. Plus ubid said that it was their vendor's error, not theirs.. that's all fine.. I can understand that, and I don't hold ubid responsible if that's the case... But then the VENDOR should have to honor this mistake.

I used to work for dish network.. If we booked customers for installations for the following week... and then that week comes around and I forget I gave all my technicians the week off, and then I don't call the customers to tell them they aren't going to be seen, after they've made their appointments... do you think they're going to be fine with that? Hell no.. ubid/supplier should take responsibilty for the mistake and try to satisfy the customers they have offended. That is what we are getting at.

    • Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.2 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel. You can jump to next/previous file in a folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown. You can perform automatic actions at end of file. For example to go to next file or close player. Options > Playback > After Playback (permanent setting) Menu > Play > After Playback (for current file only) A-B repeat - You can loop a segment of a video. Press [ and ] to set start and stop markers. You can rotate/flip/mirror/stretch/zoom the video Menu > View > Pan&Scan This is also easily done with hotkeys (see below). There are lots of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. They can be customized as well. Options > Player > Keys Tip: there is a search box above the table. You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer. After installation these renderers can be selected here: Options > Playback > Output Ability to search for and download subtitles, either automatically or manually (press D): Options > Subtitles > Misc Besides all these (new) features, there have also been many bugfixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years that give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs. Support was added for CUE sheets, WebVTT subtitles, etc. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.2 changelog: Updated LAV Filters to version 0.81-23-g6fadb Updated MPC Video Renderer to version 0.10.2.2540 Updated MediaInfo DLL to version 26.05 Updated MPC Audio Renderer Several crash fixes, bug fixes and small improvements. • No problems here using the new Outlook. In our company we started to default installing to users on new computers or when we're reimaging. But, if the user needs/ask for the classic one, we install it. Low reject rate at this point.
    • Yeah it's my only home/business computer. The Surface Pen magnetic Storage is on the left side, but it doesn't charge the Pen. I do the charging once every 6+ months by interchanging between 2 rechargeable AAAA batteries and charging the other via a USB A battery charger.
    • I have NO problem restricting minors having access to apps. Personally, I'd like to see the restriction extend to smartphones too, but that should be the parents anyway. But on the restrictions ? GOOD LUCK enforcing that. Between VPN's, side loading and what not, I'm sure kids will find a way around it.
