I am very curious as to the privacy of the various VPN's offered (lifetime) from Neowin deals. Doing my own research has left me just as confused as before. Has anybody had any experiences with the following VPNs:

Ivacy VPN

PureVPN

HideMyAss! VPN

Hid My IP

RA4W VPN

I have used IPVanish before, but am curious as to the reputation of the above VPNs.

I can only give you information that I found, I have not used any of these. It really depends on what you want to accomplish with a VPN. Are you trying to use them to circumvent geolocation, say for Netflix? Or are you wanting to "hide" what you are doing from your ISP, for say large downloads?  I always recommend looking at this list for reputible VPNS, www.privacytools.io. You want to avoid anything being run in the "fourteen eyes." Well sought after VPNs generally are outside of the US, use encryption, accept Bitcoin, support OpenVPN and have a no logging policy, you can read more about that at privacytools website.

Ivacy VPN

Their servers are slower than free alternatives, lots of locations are simulated and some protocols don't work. Their refund policy also has a 2GB bandwidth limit which is no where near enough to test out their servers properly to see how badly they suck.

Stay away, even their 12 month deals are not worth it as it's on par or worse than free alternatives.

It's impossible to use Ivacy for gaming, even with no encryption, you still lag out not after long (UK fastest L2TP)

Both OpenVPN protocols don't seem to work

20GB minimum and make it clear how much bandwidth they have left, best to have no limit.

I also wanted a refund as the VPN service is disappointing for the fact that gaming doesn't seem possible and you have to disable encryption to prevent yourself from being disconnected very soon after connecting if playing an online game. Without encryption it'll last a couple minutes. I asked for a refund 5 days back and was turned down because I had used 5GB of bandwidth which is 3GB over the limit.

I finally strongly dislike the simulated countries because of the extra ping so think you should add a check box to hide them. I also found the layout of the program really confusing for the first few days as there are 3 sections/windows which let you connect.

PureVPN

PureVPN service frauds customers in the middle of the day by showing random number of people "buying" their service. It's rare how they even have a one star in reviews.

Quote

Yes, the random number is very good and it sounds like many users will buy it and it's very nice. Anyway, the fraud way is not good and I suspect it. Many people say they can't get money back from the PureVPN and you should go to Paypal or Credit Card to apply refund. But what the hell PCMag give PureVPN so high? I'm confused.

Several days ago, PureVPN launched the discount to buy one year and get one more year. Who knows it couldn't be a fraud and going to run away?

HideMyAss! VPN

I got woken up by a notice that my VPN had disconnected, after multiple attempts to reconnect, I checked my email - and there it was, a letter saying my account had been SUSPENDED. They log ALL of your information, and definitely do nothing to hide your ass. They pretty much tell you in the email that they WILL roll over on you and give your information freely to anybody with a court order. I'm sorry I'm three months in to a 12 month subscription and won't be eligible for a refund, but as of now, I'm switching to PIA.

DO NOT USE HIDE MY ASS - it's everything a VPN is not supposed to be.

TorrentFreak had put together a guide on VPN's that don't log your information. It's telling that Hide My Ass is nowhere on the list.

EDIT: After reading the article, it turns out that Hide My Ass was actually the company that prompted the creation of the guide in the first place! They'd turned over information incriminating a file sharer in 2011. I had no idea that they were not just bad, but already been dicks once before.

We have received a file sharing complaint and the date, time, and IP address provided match the date, time, and IP address your VPN account was in use. Illegal file sharing is against our terms of service and we cannot ignore breach of copyright complaints, as such we kindly ask you to stop sharing said files to comply with this request. Please note repeated offences may result in permanent suspension.

The whole reason I pay for a VPN is to encrypt my traffic, which I thought concealed whatever I'm doing on my internet connection. What giveth?

HidMyIP

Cant find any information on this one, would 100% stay away from it.

RA4W

I had their service for a couple of weeks but then I find their database was leak online when I was search my IP on google and my IP was included in it.

I also found another reddit post here but am posting it myself to alert community once time again since the vpn company keeps deleting / reporting the links of the dump to hide it from new customar.

https://www.reddit.com/r/vpnreviews/comments/617g9u/ra4wvpn_keeps_logs/

Below you can find proof that RA4WVPN keeps logs of users connections! Along with that they keep logs of ports deleted.

This is proof that they lie about being log free VPN Company! Along with that, THEY ARE NOT EVEN A COMPANY!!!! At the time of writing this they claim to be an LLC Based out of the USA, but when searching for "RA4W LLC" it shows that it is a dissolved company!!

This makes two lies now! How many more lies are they feeding us?

The following was gathered using multiple exploits throughout the RA4W VPN Service. These exploits allowed me to run arbitrary SQL code.

This is an important issue! They have over 20k users! Please help spread the word!! -V

PS, RA4W You should do a few things. Clean users input, and dont use open source software! "

Full Database dump is here.

From the looks of it, all of the VPN service providers from the "Neowin hot deals," or whatever they are called, are not worth using. Most likely they are all part of the same affiliate program Neowin uses for these deals. I can tell you that I have used IVPN, www.ivpn.net, and have nothing but good things to say about them. No logs, speeds were fast, prices were respectable, etc.

Never heard of these VPN providers before except PureVPN and HideMyAss which both had privacy issues before if I remember correctly. I tend to check TorrentFreak for up to date VPN comparison lists which are mostly about privacy. Currently I'm using NordVPN, not completely satisfied with it's speeds but haven't switched since I haven't found an alternative that fits my requirements yet.

    • If they don't sell enough of the 1st gen then there won't be a 2nd gen
    • Epic fail, should've added an eSata port on the back, also if the memory/NVME are soldered then they're hardly gonna sell any, first thing most people do with their Steamdeck is, or used to be, replacing the NVME with a 2TB one.

    • Nice to see! Especially now with Arm64 VMs getting more popular and sometimes even cheaper than traditional x86 ones in datacenters.
