iPhone headphones and non-Apple hardware

Okay - I have a (hopefully) non-silly question; a friend got an iPhone 7 for his birthday, and is NOT a headphone fan - however, his iPhone includes them.  Are the headphones usable with non-Apple hardware (preferably via Bluetooth)?  His significant other has an Android phone and two Android tablets (one smaller and one large) - if she can pair them with any or all, it would certainly get use out of what would otherwise be shelfware.

This is only a guess, but I would have thought so, only trying to pair them to something else would tell for certain.

I paired a generic headset to my wife's iphone7 without issue, so I don't see a reason why it couldn't be done the other way round..

I'm assuming you're talking about airpods, yes they will pair with most devices.
