The Orville, was okay, imo it's just a campy version of Star Trek TNG, I usually DVR'd it and watched it whenever, I'm not going to sub to Hulu for it, But I am able to get Canadian TV channels

so I could watch it on CityTV, as I understand it's just in the USA that the show is being transferred to Hulu. and international viewing remains unchanged.

I'm just waiting for season 4 of The Expanse, I already have Prime, so the move from Syfy to Prime was no big deal for me, even better, well besides the fact that amazon saved the show.

But to me The Orville is not worth buying a Hulu sub even for $5 per month.

  • 1 year later...

It is cancelled https://www.thecinemaspot.com/2020/08/01/exclusive-the-orville-canceled-after-third-season-at-hulu/ :(

This bit is interesting:

We probably would not have even gotten a third season if it wasn’t for an international deal that Disney needed to complete (which included a third season of The Orville).

  • Steven P. changed the title to [Official] The Orville (cancelled at HULU)

Well that’s a shame, I felt season 2 was where it found itself. A TNG feeling but with staff who were a bit more like “me and my mates would be”.  The stories became a lot more compelling, a lot more relevant and the characters grew.

, I am not aware of Hulu being in talks with any other streaming services or networks about moving the show elsewhere.

I'm fairly sure Hulu/Disney don't actually own the show IP itself, MacFarlane does, so it really doesn't matter if Hulu have been in any talks to move it elsewhere or not as it's not their show...

If Disney/Hulu with all the money and deep pockets they have didn't want to keep the show around, why would some other network bother to pick it up?  I think the chances are slim unless there's a huge fan movement to keep it going, I just don't see that happening though.

The first mistake is trying to understand TV series cancellations and renewals, no-one does ;)

  • Jim K changed the title to [Official] The Orville

Well this sucks, though on the bright side they haven't finished (afaik) Season 3 production.  Maybe they can end the series wrapped in a nice little bow vs. some cliffhanger.

Went ahead and changed the topic title and removed the "Cancelled" since Season 3 is still coming.

Sad to see it go, but also a little humored all DSC/PIC/etc... haters will have to find some other show to tout as “real trek” now.

Maybe they'll finally understand that their version of trek doesn't work anymore?  I don't know what else to say really.   Who knows what else was at play here but i honestly don't think higher costs of scifi shows in general had a hand to play in this decision.

MUCH better and improved visual effects. Cinematic quality right  there. The Orville is finally getting pounded hard. Love it. This is going to be one good season. I love this show. I hope Hulu keeps this baby for a long time to come.

I agree, it looks a lot better.

Isaac looks like he's either going to kill the kids or save them, not sure which, but I'm all in for S3.

Pretty sure that was a nightmare sequence, but it looked fantastic!  Really looking forwards to it, but kinda ###### that we have to wait until June!

McFarlane's online note said they had a lot of trouble with CoVid-19; general staffing, actor Norm Macdonald (voiced Yaphit) passed away. etc., so it really isn't a surprise it took forever.

Losing an actor is hard, but re Covid, plenty of other shows had the same barrier yet managed to not take nearly 3 years for the next season...

Caught this today,

Details are being kept under wraps, but the show seems to be taking a page from Star Trek: Discovery and sending the ship and its crew far into the future. Per the official premise, "Set 400 years in the future, The Orville: New Horizons finds the crew of the USS Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships."

Uh, I think they misunderstood something kinda basic here... The original premise of The Orville is that it's set 400 years from NOW....  I very much doubt they've jumped another 400 years with time travel...

I was thinking the same thing.  But calling the season "New Horizons" is a little odd in itself.

I think that's mostly the network change, but it's also post war breaking out so....

    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2 to finally get one of the most requested features by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft officially confirmed Windows 11 version 26H2 with the latest build, 26300.8697, for testing in the experimental Insider channel. The company also published more details about it mainly directed towards IT admins and system admins. Essentially version 26H2 will be delivered via an enablement package (eKB) over Windows 11 25H2. If you are wondering about some of the upcoming features in the next Windows version, one of them is certainly very interesting as Microsoft has confirmed it is finally bringing one of the most overwhelmingly requested features ever. March Rogers, the Partner Director of Design at Microsoft, recently highlighted some of the Search improvements that the company is testing, and during the interaction with users on X where he posted it, Rogers also confirmed that the company is working on disabling web search results inside Search. This is something which many users find quite annoying as Windows would often serve them links to Bing which it feels could be more helpful rather than bringing up the actual object or app the user may be searching for on their PC. Finally though the company is prioritizing local file search over the web. However the feature could not be disabled for many users as not all new features are immediately rolled out to everyone. Image via phantomofearth (X) Windows enthusiast phantomofearth who likes to dig deep into new builds uncovered the IDs you will need to enable these features. Using the following feature IDs the new Search-related features landing in Windows 11 26H2 can be used. Follow the steps below to enable the new Search experience on Windows 11 build 26300.8697: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to the Command Prompt profile with the Ctrl + Shift + 2 shortcut or by clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id: and press Enter. Restart your computer. If you change your mind and want to restore, repeat the steps above and replace /enable with /disable in the commands on steps 5 and 6. Delightedly and perhaps also expectedly, once you disable web search and other such bloat, the Windows 11 Search is said to get snappier as remarked by another Windows enthusiast Xeno.
