cbrookhart
I have a 250GB external MyBook drive that I've had for several years. Lately, it's taking a noticeable amount of time to access the drive. Now when I try to access it, I get the following error: Drive not accessible. Semaphore timeout period has expired. I hope that this isn't an indication that the drive is failing or has failed. I have a lot of data on this drive that I want to be able to access. This is occurring on Windows 10 I looked up this error and one article in the Microsoft forums suggested running chkdsk /r Edited October 7, 2017 by cbrookhart
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted October 7, 2017 Moderator Share Posted October 7, 2017 Did you check the speed its transferring at? Could be a bad USB port, USB cord, USB Controller Card, or the HDD itself. Try a different USB slot, for starters?
cbrookhart
All information I found in reference to this error seemed to be associated with transferring files. All I'm trying to do is access the drive. Once the chkdsk is finished, I'll try a different USB port and see if that makes any difference.
