[OFFICIAL] Gaming Setups Thread (PC & Console)

Recommended Posts

My setup had changed a lot in the last few months.

I did have a fairly good 1000 watt 5.1 setup (with a massive sub) but when I bought my Grados (headphones) they just couldn't compare, so I ended up selling them. I've still not heard any speakers that compare to  these headphones, and I still don't have an amp for them yet. (although a few devices have amplified headphone jacks)

I've got those Grado's too, and combined with your speakers they make a perfect day/night combo.

I wish i'd got a peek into your room when i stopped by ;)

Nice AV switch (just got the same one myself).

bekabam : Are the backs of the US PS2 cases like that? As in, not the black text on white hotness we dirty Europeans have?

Well here are a couple pictures of mine, please excuse the messy electrical cabling, just moved it round and not got around to tidying it up but its still alrightish.

I have a question for all of you who posted pictures of your "Gaming Area": How could you afford it ? Did your parents bought it ? Or do you have a job ? And How old are you guys ?

I too sometimes wonder how people get such good setups and how it got funded.

I figure if it's your only hobby/interest then you invest most of your free money into it so you cna probably afford it all quite quick with a job, i'm sure though as i've never had a job :pinch:

Well, my older brother bought the PS2 when it first came out and he gave it to me one christmas as a present two or three years back.

I bought the Xbox myself by saving up. I'm 17 and have a very good paying part time job to fund all my spending activities.

Heres mine.. best thing about it is the speakers.. 100watt Bang & Olufsen Beovox S75's from um.. '78 or '79 i think ..apart from that a Technics amp, the xbox, and old tv.. which i plan to replace in july with a nice big 40something inch plasma screen.

sorry about lame picture quality.. i had to lighten it & stuff.

    • NVIDIA officially supports Ubuntu, as linked above with the GeForce NOW Hands on I did in collaboration with Paul Hill.
    • TO be clear I am not running linux today, however I keep thinking about it. And I want to make sure there are minimal obstacles if I decide to make that switch in the coming months.
    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/
    • One reason it might be running hotter is dust build up within the cooling or perhaps the paste has dried out. You could always try repasting your old GPU and cleaning the cooler. Your experience in Linux will be much better with an AMD GPU; the performance in gaming is much closer to Windows than nVidia would be. I personally think on Windows, AMD drivers are junk.
    • I reviewed it back in March, but I didn't have a 5070 at the time https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/ When I reviewed the 9070 I did have a 5070 to compare it against, so the scores are there for the 9070 XT. it outperforms the 5070 in raster, and is barely neck and neck in Ray Tracing. So it's better than a 5070 in everything but Ray Tracing where it is neck and neck, or just under. To be honest, the uplift from 3080 when it was new to the 9070 XT is not as great a step up. If you can find a used 4080 Super for around the same money, you would probably be better off, but if you only want to buy new then the 16GB 9070 XT is the best value for money in its category.
