The reason I ask is, upgrading your Wi-Fi card might not do anything for you. Your laptop supports wireless N, does your router? If you have an older router, you would want to upgrade that instead. The other option would be to upgrade your router to one that supports wireless AC and along with that, upgrade your wifi card on the laptop. You can probably purchase an internal card, but an easier solution would be to purchase a USB wifi stick. Something like this, https://www.bestbuy.com/site/linksys-next-gen-ac-dual-band-wireless-ac600-usb-network-adapter-black/5174100.p?skuId=5174100. You might be able to find an internal card, I am not sure if those are universal, hopefully someone else can chime in. I would think they are, but it has been a while since I have upgraded any of those. zhangm 1 Share

zhangm Supervisor Posted November 2, 2017 Supervisor Share Posted November 2, 2017 I'd also recommend the USB wifi dongle route. You technically could replace the internal wireless card. Per the linked site, it's a half-height mini PCIe card with two antenna connectors. I wasn't able to find any evidence that the card is easily accessible through hatches on the bottom. Worst-case, they put it on the upwards face of the mobo and you'd have to take the entire thing apart to reach it. http://www.upperedgetech.com/toshiba-mini-pci-express-half-height-wlan-wifi-802-11n-wireless-card-rtl8/ Circaflex 1 Share
LilSnoop40
hmmm either one of these options would get me the higher speeds. could you recommend an internal model if i want to go that router please? Thank you
zhangm Supervisor Posted November 3, 2017 Supervisor Share Posted November 3, 2017 A card such as this could be compatible. https://ark.intel.com/products/75439/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-7260 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Wireless-AC-7260-7260HMW-802-11AC-Dual-Band-BT4-0-PCIe-Half-Mini-Wifi-Card-/190897053836 I'm not able to find a specific instance where someone clearly says that they replaced the Realtek card in this particular laptop with the above successfully, so please consider that a caveat. An additional concern is that I've read about cases where Toshiba seems to have implemented wifi hardware white/blacklists in the BIOS on certain computers. This will prevent booting on devices with such a BIOS limitation and specific pieces of hardware, but I'm not sure your laptop has it. Anyway: USB wifi dongle is the most straight-forward approach and most likely to work with least effort. An internal card swap should work barring unknown limitations that have been intentionally introduced by Toshiba.
