Strange phrase

Guys, what does this phrase mean exactly?: "We will come up with solutions that are magnitudes better than the status quo"

I'm not a native speaker, and Google did not help.

Is it English at all?

Thanks

"We will come up with solutions that are much better than what is already in place."

Magnitude is another word to describe the size of something. If something is magnitudes better then it isn't a small improvement, but a very large one. So in this case the solutions that will be put in place will be a large improvement over what is already in place.

I would interpret it as a solution that is a lot better then what is accepted as a solution by most.

Which is a funny statement, since a solution is a solution no matter the process to get to the outcome.

Using the term magnitude reflects a HUGE change/difference.. An order of magnitude is like 10 times something vs 1.5 or 2 times better, etc.

When you measure something in magnitude quite often it would be on a logarithmic scale vs a liner scale..

No not really..  Unless your talking the solution to a math problem where there is 1 answer.. Example you need internet connection.. 1 solution you get a 1mbps/1mbps connection.. That solved the problem you have internet... But getting a 10mbps/10mbps line would be a magnitude better solution.. 1ge/1ge would be magnitudes better than your 1mbps connection.

You need to move a pile of dirt from one location to another.. You could move it with a wheel barrel and that takes 100 trips and 7 days to move it..  Or you could bring in a truck and a bobcat and move the dirt in 1 trip in 1 hour.. Which solution is better? ;)  The cost of paying the guy for 7 days to move it cost more than the cost of the truck for the job..

Comes down to the problem your looking to solve and the type of solution you come up with..  Cost to implement the solution in effort, time, money, etc. Final result of the solution... You need a picture taken.. You could take it with your phone.  Or you could hire a professional photographer.. While sure it would be a picture of X.. But the one done by the professional is going to look way better.. It might cost more - but maybe the result is that much better.

There are infinite ways to skin the cat ;)  Not all are created equal.
