Not all of us voted to leave the EU you know.  Personally, I'm extremely annoyed at losing my EU citizenship.  However, as it keeps being said. We're leaving the EU political union, not  the European continent.

I know and I have always hope. I have already apologized for my generalizations but still the emotive side of me is not happy at all about the results and, like me, a lot of people who still believe in a strong Europe are looking at you with different eyes now. Sorry guys but I need to leave to work now. Has been a energizing discussion

What annoys me most about all this is that, in 5 years time my mortgage will be paid.  In 10 years I plan to retire. I -was- going to retire to Spain, but I guess that won't be quite so easy any more! :(

Bloody leavers!

Oh yes, I teach my children history but also how the past historic decisions affect the present and the future. The English decision will speed up the process in which a bunch of small countries are condemned to be only puppets in the hands of puppeteers bigger than them, your country included. What will be our future in a world where the big gorillas have any kind of big buttons to press?  An Europe that could overcome its (many) problems would have been a big inconvenience. As you pointed in your comment, this all an economic affair

Oh here we go...

Let me fix that for you.... The Republic of Ireland is not a part of the UK

It was more about the vote as opposed to UK sovereignty.

(Let's face it, some regions within England don't think they're a part of the UK neither :p )

Why not?  Explain to me what is wrong with immigrants getting here legally and safely.  Oh, did you mean ILLEGAL immigrants?

I did that mean yes sorry, which in reality is not what was used in the Brexit talk, so please ignore that bit, it was a mixture of two different trains of thought.

What would be the reason immigrants would want to go there......Bad dental care and bland food?

Oh look, racial stereotypes...  Glad that none exist about America or Americans...

The same reason Mexicans want to go to the US... To live in trailer parks and marry their sisters.

BOOM! HEADSHOT!!

Ironically enough, (I game with a lot of American gamers) I was in Destiny 2, with my gaming buddies, and some random guy (to me) joined our party, as soon as he heard my accent, he started with all that crap, our pronunciation of words (aluminium, jaguar etc..) then went on about our dental, so I said more or less exactly what you just posted. He was laughed out of the party.

No... The Mexicans go to work at McDonald's and the people that live in trailer parks go to work at Taco Bell

Speaking as someone whose from Michigan, whose two peninsulas are connected by the  8 kilometer Mackinac Bridge, this would be an easy engineering project.  Big Mac allows a huge amount of shipping traffic to pass under it between and beyond the Great Lakes states. This and 3 major bridges between MI and Ontario, soon to be 4.

All that's needed for the Channel is to build two broad causeways with a Mackinac-size bridge mid-way across.  Alternatively, 3 causeways and 2 bridges to expedite even more shipping. Over-ocean causeways are a long-ago solved tech; the US Overseas Highway runs between Florida and the Keys. Hurricane country.

Unless you guys are afraid of cheaper & easier transport than the limited amount of traffic which can pass through a tunnel (we have one of those to Canada too) or by  air.....

The English Channel is the busiest shipping lane in the entire world. How're you going to manage that lot with a bridge blocking the way through, hmm?

By building a bridge tall enough for the tallest ships to pass freely under it.

That's a good choice for retirement.

There won't be any difference in the application process.

It would need to be several hundred meters high to allow the massive container ships through. Also, the Channel has some REALLY rough weather.  No way would it be safe.

simple solution, build a bridge between Boris`s ears (no resistance or blockages between point A & B)

and deploy another tunnel.......problem solved :)

Yep. A height of more than 200 m is required.

Denmark has built two bridges of this kind on the European route E20, separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Øresund_Bridge  - a joint project with Sweden - (Height 204 metres (669 ft))

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Belt_Fixed_Link (Height 254 metres (833 ft))

The big Maersk Triple E container ships have an air draft of 55.4 - 58.2 meters when fully loaded and 60 - 62.7 meters otherwise.

Michigan's Big Mac bridge, built in the 1950's, is 168.25 meters and the Straits of Mackinac see 30+ meter waves - remember the Edmund Fitzgerald?

Detroit-Windsor's upcoming Gordie Howe International bridge will be about 250 meters high.

Engineering folks, engineering.  Build it high, adding causeways and spans as required.

    • Yes, it was amusing at the time because even then dbrand was well known for stealing the designs of products from other companies. That’s what they do.
    • Didn’t Dbrand once complain that Casetify was ripping off their designs a well? seems pretty bad of them to try and get around Valve’s copyright this way with that in mind.
    • Dbrand thought they could get away with this Steam Machine case, Valve disagreed by David Uzondu Image via Dbrand Dbrand has cancelled its highly anticipated Companion Cube enclosure for the Valve Steam Machine, which it teased back in November of last year with a concept render and sign-up page, because it did not ask Valve for permission first before manufacturing the case. According to Dbrand, it took the "backwards approach" of building the product first before asking for permission from the copyright holder. Seven months of work went into the project, requiring over a thousand engineering hours from the design team. Workers developed forty-four sets of injection molding tools, making a unique mold for each sub-component of the crate. When the Companion Cube went live on Monday last week, it, according to Dbrand, quickly became the second-fastest-selling product in the company's fifteen-year history, racking up orders for hundreds of thousands of units. Customers eagerly bought the $129.95 deluxe edition or the bare-bones $99.95 version, which the manufacturer cheekily branded as the "Poverty Cube". It was around this time that the legal eagles at Valve descended on the accessory maker with a formal demand. The developer pointed out that the iconic block design remains protected intellectual property from the game Portal, so unlicensed sales had to stop. Dbrand said that all its pleas to salvage the project with the Valve team, including proposals to run a properly licensed release under official terms "with their blessing", fell on deaf ears, so it had no choice but to obey and remove every trace of the product from the internet. If you bought the enclosure, the company said that banks will process your refund by the end of this week, but if it still hasn't arrived in your account by then, you should not hesitate to contact support. The Steam Machine itself is a high-performance console that Valve designed directly to bring PC gaming into the living room. It was announced on 12th November 2025 (the same day Dbrand announced the Cube) and runs on the Linux-based SteamOS, the same OS that powers the Steam Deck. As for the price, due to the shortage of memory and storage chips, the hardware cost landed much higher than people were expecting, starting at $1,049 for the 512 model (without a controller) or $1,128 with the new gamepad. The premium 2 TB model pushes those prices even higher, selling at $1,349 for the standalone console and hitting $1,428 if you want the bundle.
