Steven
The price cuts are referenced for Intel CPU's and not AMD. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/136938-good-time-to-buy/#findComment-1672558 Share on other sites

uniacid
The price cuts are referenced for Intel CPU's and not AMD. yeah thats what I was thinking he might of been talking about, and who knows if AMD will cut thier prices might be since prescott will be coming out soon :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/136938-good-time-to-buy/#findComment-1672625 Share on other sites
adamp2p
AMD is already competitive and will remain competitive when the new Prescott CPU's are released. Prescott is not an impressive performer, at this release... ...I do not expect Precott to be able to catch the A64 platform until LGA 775 is released. nopelol56
ok i guess i just remembered wrong, thanks. as much as i love AMD i am cureious to see what the Prescott can do. as long as intel is rebranding Xeons as P4 EEs i wont buy one but it will be intresting to see. giga Veteran Posted January 31, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 31, 2004 What I would do is wait a few months to let the 939 pins released, pci Express, new graphics card released (R420), etc. I heard that AMD will NOT drop cpu prices next week...read here.. http://tech-critic.com/comments.php?catid=1&id=8688 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/136938-good-time-to-buy/#findComment-1672819 Share on other sites
Circaflex
adam you also have to remember the people with those prescotts right now have one version and the extra cache isnt being read correctly, only dfi has released a bios i think, but i agree i think amd has it strong untill socket t prescott is released Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/136938-good-time-to-buy/#findComment-1672828 Share on other sites

nuka_t
i heard that as a general rule, amd price cuts come one week after intel ones. i bought myself a cheap athlon xp system that im gonna use until 64 bit goes mainstream and pci express adn longhorn are out. dunno if im gonna last that long but longhorn will be here b4 ya know it. especillay if i beta test over the summer. i would just be thinking about longhorn and not my hardware. HeavyTwenty
Find the cheapest PCI video card possible, then you should checkout if the card is compatible with your Linux distro by searching on google or the Linux distro's website.
