return to FAT 32 with fdisk(it is urgent)

Recommended Posts

hi everyone...haing a trouble with NTFS disk format...i guess i formated my computer with NTFS file format and now cannot format my computer with FAT 32 i heard something that it is possible to solve this problem by using "fdisk"..please can someone tell how to do this....please....

i dont understand what you are asking

do you want to format and reinstall windows on fat32?

I always thought you could use fdisk to that

1. grab a win98 bootdisk at www.bootdisk.com

2. startup off that boot disk

3. type fdisk

4. delete the ntfs partition (it shoudl be in the unknown filesystem listing)

5. create a new partition

6. restart your computer and format by typing format c: (or whatever you use)

shouldn't this set it back to fat32?

if you are using windowsxp just install it on the existing file system.

correct me if i am wrong ... about what i said or if that is noty what you mean in your post

If you want to run a game in Windows 98, try compatibility mode. Otherwise if you really want to re-format and reinstal windows here's how to go about that. (You can not format, but convert into FAT32 using partition magic or system commander, but you'll still have xp and you could have problems as well)

Get a win98 boot disk (or millennium... anything win boot disk that ran in FATx).

Boot onto that disk without CD-ROM support.

Type FDISK /MBR. That will clear out your master boot record. You shouldn't get any response from that command.

Type FDISK. Go in and delete your NTFS partition, then create a FAT partition.

Restart still booting from the floppy with CD-ROM support. You should now be able to get to your C: drive.

Type C: then FORMAT C: . Follow the prompts. When it asks for a label for your newly formatted drive, type SIMPLEX because it's a cool name ;) .

Type D: (where D is your CD-ROM drive) and have fun installing that piece of trash that crashes every 2 minutes. Use the FAT32 converter in WIN98 to convert your drive to FAT32 after you have installed windows.

I hope you don't do this. Use XP. It's good.

From MS Help file on the convert utility

Important

Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot simply convert it back to FAT or FAT32. You will need to reformat the drive or partition which will erase all data including programs and personal files on the partition.

    • Model of the planet?  Last time I checked, Earth was a "Poisonous craphole dumpsterfire" model but I hear it's going to be recalled and scrapped before long...
    • Prices have been unchanged for a looooong time, so really, it's time for a new price bracket, no matter how annoying it is. AAA titles just cost too much to develop these days. Personally, though, I tend to play mostly indie titles that are much lower priced and usually are far better games anyway.
    • Personally I don't usually play most games enough to justify paying £75 / $100 for a single game. I recently got a Switch 2 which came bundled with Mario Kart World, due to some discount codes I worked out I paid approx. £30 for Mario Kart World getting it bundled with the console. If I had paid £75 for Mario Kart World I'll be honest I would have been very disappointed with it. The big open world is essentially empty and lacking any real content, the changes to go GP mode mean you only really do one lap in most races... compared to Mario Kart 8 which has pretty much always been available for around £40 you have to ask why the game is almost double the cost? Look at all the content available in a Forza Horizon game compared to Mario Kart. For £30 I feel the game is ok, its not bad, however its not amazing either.
    • It was just a copy pasta from his other replies...
    • I think that the last game I bought on day-one was something like Ghost of Tsushima. I've come to realise that I don't have enough time (or sometimes inclination) to game as much as I used to, and I've got plenty of games to keep me occupied if I do decide to play. So I don't see the need to buy a game when it first releases - I wait until it goes on sale. If I'm really excited about a game and the price is under £50 then I would consider it, but anything over that price point gets ignored until the price comes down.
