Hi guys,

I've got a possible project that I'm already making progress with, but I need other ways to spend my time. A while ago I had the idea of holding informal IT sessions for people in or around my city. I would have a presentation (with more for the future if there is enough interest) that would cover various "simple" IT ideas that your day-to-day person might benefit from, followed by a Q&A and then a section where people could ask me to take a look at their computer.

My questions are the following:

1) What would be the best topics to briefly cover in the first presentation? Let's face it, there's no point in getting in to subnets or the registry.

2) What kind of questions would you expect from a day-to-day user? I've worked in IT for over 8 years so maybe there is a question so simple that I've overlooked it.

These presentations would cover all PC operating systems and smartphones, so it wouldn't just be Windows.

Any suggestions are welcome, especially if you have held such presentations and meetings before.

To add a specific suggestion to the "security" recommendation - warning signs to look for in a malicious email. Since email is still one of the big infection/scam/phishing routes, I'd say it deserves a little time. Just had to vet a few emails for users this morning, so it's fresh in my mind.

Though honestly that could probably be a presentation in and of itself.
