S. Korea to launch small satellite this week

Quote

SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korea is scheduled to launch its small satellite from an Air Force base in the United States later this week, Seoul's science ministry said Tuesday.

The Ministry of Science and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) said the Falcon 9 is scheduled to lift off at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California at 3:32 a.m. (local time) on Thursday with the aim of putting the satellite, the Next Sat-1, into orbit.

The 107-kilogram satellite, developed by KAIST from 2012-2017, will travel at an altitude of 575 km above the ground for the next two years to measure space radiation and observe stars' infrared rays, it said.

The launch was earlier delayed as American rocket company SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, extended its inspection of its two-stage rocket, the Falcon 9.

It would mark the first time for SpaceX to reuse the same rocket three times. Up until now, practically all orbital rockets were disposable, meaning the rockets were thrown away after being launched into space.

Currently, South Korea operates four satellites for weather and Earth observation.

It’s an incredibly rare, clear morning here at Vandenberg as we get ready for today’s historic #SpaceX launch. This will be the first time a booster flies a third mission, and the most sats in a single launch at 64. @NASASpaceflight @SpaceflightInc @SpaceX @elonmusk @planetlabs

And fueling is indeed underway. No issues or abort of the count has been called over the Launch Director's net, indicating that we are proceeding nominally toward launch. #SpaceX #Falcon9 #SSOA

New T-0 of 10:34am Pacific, possibly due to a collision avoidance alert with an object already in space, but not confirmed. I’m told Spaceflight & USAF teams are being cautious with COLAs for this mission with 64 smallsats, and a short slip into the launch window was possible.

    • Nice rant! Expletive after expletive after expletive. Poor petal, I've touched a nerve. Would you like a tissue to wipe those tears away. Btw, nice one calling Neowin trash. Why would you stick around when you disrespect this site and the people behind it? Just go away if you feel that way.

    • This is of course "clickbait" WTF? It is literally your example but tech based. A "clickbait" title is a sensationalized headline designed to manipulate readers into clicking a link using things like "fear" rather than delivering objective facts. A "clickbait" headline also usually provides little value compared to the hype generated. How does this headline not qualify? It's a generic often reused headline that is overly sensationalized. Oh no! "millions" can't use this app anymore. It has no basic facts like what f*cking app. You read the article and it's the Samsung VPN which no one cares about and there is a million free VPNs. How are you defending this ######? Headlines like this (and among other things) make me read Neowin much less than I used to in the past. It's trash...
