Breaking Bad Movie In Development; Starts Filming This Fall

UPDATE: THR reports Vince Gilligan is writing a two-hour movie (and may direct it), which will be set in the Breaking Bad franchise. The original article follows.

A surprise Breaking Bad movie is coming through the pipeline and reportedly starts filming later this fall. Widely considered one of the finest television dramas of all-time, Vince Gilligan's epic crime saga remains among AMC's flagship properties. After Breaking Bad concluded its prolific five-season run back in 2013, the network quickly moved ahead with the prequel/spinoff series, Better Call Saul. Following the exploits of a pre-Breaking Bad Jimmy McGill, Saul has become an acclaimed show in its own right, earning several accolades across its four seasons.

Better Call Saul was renewed for a fifth season, but as it inches closer and closer to the events of Breaking Bad, it's apparent the spinoff has a limited shelf life. There's a distinct possibility the next season of Saul is the last, which would leave quite a void in AMC's programming. However, they apparently have something major in the works that'll ensure they don't have to say goodbye to Gilligan's Albuquerque just yet.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, a film going by the working title Greenbrier(a Sony production) is in fact a secret Breaking Bad movie. Principal photography will start in New Mexico later this month and run until February 2019.

It's important to note there's no official confirmation Greenbrier is a Breaking Badproject, but there's enough evidence to make it a plausible claim. Albuquerque, of course, was a primary filming location for both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, so that in it of itself will be a strong connection for most people. The two shows were also Sony productions, and Gilligan has a three-year deal in place with Sony Pictures Television. Additionally, Greenbrier is said to follow "the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom." That could be applied to one Jesse Pinkman, who was last seen speeding away after he and Walter White defeated Jack Welker's gang.

Wrong link at the bottom there me thinks.

I thought a Saul spin off was a terrible idea and that turned out great so hopefully this does well too.

Personally, I thought the whole show was a poor premise that could only ever work in the USA.  Anywhere else, it would have ended right after his first doctors' appointment with the words "Treatment starts on Monday."  :p

I fear this is going to crash and burn. Breaking Bad was just too incredible, a film couldn't top it nor compare.

But hey, prove me wrong. It'll be one of the few times I'll be happy to eat my words.
