I want to buy a digital camera, is this a good one?

Recommended Posts

Rakuten (buy.com) has a Sony Alpha a6000 mirrorless camera for $498 I know nothing at all about the digital camera market now, and do not know if this is a good one or not. Feel free to suggest something else if this is not a good camera, my goal would be to stay under the $500 mark if at all possible.

I'm going to bump this, but I'm going to rephrase my question:

I would like to buy a digital camera, and I know nothing about the types now. My budget is $200 to maybe $500 or so, I would like to know what the different types are, I know point and shoot, and the DSLR, but I do not know what the best type of camera is. I am not looking to go pro with photography, but I just want something a bit better then a cell phone camera. I am currently thinking about moving away from Florida come this summer, so I would like to have something to travel with.

Another question: is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KNXATL8 this a good camera? It has good reviews, and is a nice price.

Yes, but it only has slow contrast detect. If all pictures you are going to take will be of stationary subjects it will be fine.

But if you need responsive camera a6000 is better.

So I was all set to but the camera from buy.com, but I checked one more time on Amazon and found this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CQJHJ2E/ since it is sold by Amazon, I was able to use my employee discount and went ahead and purchased it. I read the reviews and it seems to be a very good camera for the price, plus it comes with two lens. Does anyone have any opinion on it, was it a good buy?

Maybe this will help:

https://cameradecision.com/compare/Sony-Alpha-a6000-vs-Canon-EOS-Rebel-T6

https://www.apotelyt.com/compare-camera/sony-a6000-vs-canon-t6

Both are different designs.  From what I've read, Canon is falling behind on the newer designs, but they're still decent cameras.  And you're not buying a newer model anyway.

Thanks for the links! This was a big step for me, the last camera I had (besides cell phone) was a point and shoot, so I was totally out of the loop about cameras!

I wouldn't buy a DLSR, all companies involved in photography are moving away from the mirror.

The future is mirrorless, don't buy into something that is going to be phased out in near future.

    • Ridiculous claim that the labor cost difference of $6000 annually would increase cost per phone by $200. The employees produce 3 phones per month or what?
