Muslim youth group cleans up national parks amid government shutdown

(CNN) — On a rainy Saturday in Philadelphia, as the partial government shutdown continued, volunteers picked up trash outside Independence Hall, birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Across the country, dozens of their colleagues in the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association were doing the same at national parks closed or partially closed by the shutdown. They cleaned up litter, emptied garbage cans and swept the grounds -- from the Everglades National Park in Florida to Joshua Tree, California and the Cuyahoga Valley, Ohio.

Isn’t it ironic that the people that Trump want out of this country are cleaning up parks during a Trump’s shutdown?

That is a good definition of irony there!

Were they doing it pre Trump or have they decided to do it now just to prove a point??

Well, no.

They are helping to clean up the parks because the employees that normally do the job have been furloughed.

It would help if you actually read the article.

Illegals are the issue, not Muslims.

But  anyway, illegal/legal...good form.

Good for them! I can only hope that they inspire others to do the same!

Should be heavier fines for littering .  Especially cig butts.  The way people treat the earth is appalling.  I am no tree huger, but I don't go around littering either.

My brother-in-law is a smoker and he tosses his still burning butts anywhere he can (grass, road, etc) and his (former) wife used to complain at him about it and tried in vein to get him to use a coffee can to dispose of his butts. So I am completely there with you!
