Is there any difference between phones bought from amazon or the wireless sellers (Cricket,Metropcs) or are they the same? I will use it for a phone, emails, notifications, browsing the net and watching movies. Also, how is metropcs reception and quality? I know like 3 yrs ago it was pitiful. Cricket is great.

Hello,

I am using the Moto X⁴ and am very happy with it.  The model I purchased was unbranded (no carrier pre-loaded apps) and runs Android One.

Can I get some opinions on the phone carrier metropcs plz? The reception, using it in a basement...etc.

thx

Coverage will vary depending on where you are.

Check out an individual carrier's site for details. For example, https://www.metropcs.com/coverage.html for Metro.

I think the rule of thumb will be coverage will be poor in the basement, better around the the rest of the house and best outside. That is unless you happen to live right next to a tower.

Well, I live in Ma. and the reception with cricket works fine. I am curious about metropcs coz the offer free phones like stylo 4 and samsung j7 star. I had metropcs a few yrs ago but the weren't associated with t-mobile at the time like they are now. That is why i am asking about their service.

Out of your 3, I would say the j7 is the best choice but that is only in my opinion. While I have not had all those models in particular, i have had their lessor older models side by side. I have found that for LG, their OS (even though android) is just... lacking? Not sure the word I am looking for.

Gonna second the J7; I've had a good experience with Samsung budget phones for the most part. It was actually my first choice for a budget Android phone as well couple weeks ago, but the iPhone 6s came up for $120 so... I went that route instead. (for my grandmother, she actually found it easier to get into surprisingly; I thought the lack of a back button would annoy her)

Regarding T-Mobile, they're okay, but I can't tell if it was her old LG G4 or the carrier that had major issues completing calls. Made it very troublesome when trying to check on her. I also haven't had a good experience with LG phones in general so I'll acknowledge I'm biased against them, but only because I had nothing but problems with every single one I came across. :/

Can't speak to MetroPCS in terms of quality of service though. Good luck!

Hello,

The current OS build is about 6 weeks old.  I don't see anything like a changelog at https://support.motorola.com/us/en/products/cell-phones/moto-x-family/moto-x4 to give an idea of the frequency of updates, but it is usually every 1-2 months for my device (Android One).  I'm unsure about carrier-branded versions, though, it may be different for them.
