Windows 10 build 18362.53 as non-insider, consequences?

Hi guys,

 

I want to do a clean install of my W10. And rather have the latest version, instead of 1809 and upgrading next month.

 

So, since 18362.53 is available for the Release Preview, I've just got myself the ISO file. Hower, I use W10 with a local account and therefore I'm not an insider.

 

Installing should be no problem, but what about updates? Because I think I've read updates are only rolled out to specific insider rings. Or other stuff I'm not thinking about?

 

Anybody knows how this will go? ✌️

from what I understand that shouldn't be an issue; it'll just wait for the next available production release and update to that.

 

That's how it works if you turn off the insider builds after updating through WU as well.

 

chances are .53 won't be the final RC anyway though; I'd expect 1 or 2 more RC builds before production RTM release next month

.53 removes you from the insider channel if you chose the option to leave the insider channel once the final release was out.

Not so sure—might see some CU but considering they removed my machines from the Slow channel with .53, I won’t be surprised if this is what ships out.

I just updated my home computers last night and the updates didn't remove them from the 'release preview' ring.

There is a toggle for that though so maybe you selected that without realizing? (toggle says something like 'remove from insider program after next build install')

 

edit: doh I read your post too quickly; didn't see your mention of said toggle at first lol

Thanks. You think they'd come with a build that's a 'full' update? the 18362.XX updates are cumulative updates right? just like normal tuesday patches.

I just did like you on one of my machines (but with build .30 though), and being none insider, I got offered the cumulative update to .53 nonetheless, so you are gold  this is clearly treated as a final build.
