Unable to delete files ("File Access Denied")

I am running a clean install of Windows 10 v1903.

 

I installed Metro Exodus from the Xbox app and the default installation location is:

 

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\DeepSilver.ProjectWindfall_1.0.10.0_x64__hmv7qcest37me

 

I had to give myself permission to access the 'WindowsApps' folder (which is frustrating).

 

I gave myself permission and found the two video files I want to delete (to skip the intro videos on startup) but I'm getting:

I've tried to give myself permission to the files themselves but I get:

When I click 'Advanced', I get:

When I click 'Continue', I get:

Any idea how I can simply delete the files?

Try running this from an elevated Powershell:

 

Get-AppxPackage *ProjectWindfall* | Remove-AppxPackage

That uninstalls the program, doesn't it?

I just want to delete two files:

My bad, yes that does uninstall the game.

 

One of the problems with UWP games  (from the Microsoft Store) is that they are difficult to modify. You may need to take ownership of the files and then grant yourself Full Control in order to delete them. Though I don't know what that might do to the game.

could just bypass Microsoft NTFS and UWP permissions by booting into a linux live disc/usb and delete the files from there :)

 

as said above though I'm not sure if deleting random files from a UWP would corrupt the package or cause other issues or not.

Reboot to safe mode could work if that is still in the latest version.

 

Try not to be upset. The Windows 10 App Store is designed to be a secure sandbox type thing same as Apple or Google. You would do the same if given responsibility for an App Store.

 

But it is Windows, so the Power and The Glory is all yours in the end. There will be a way to do exactly what you want.

 

Boot NTFS write capable Linux from a stick sure sounds fast and easy....

1- Open Prompt as administrator (type 'prompt' on search / right button click on it / open as admin)

3- Taking ownership. Type (or just copy / paste) this:

Note that rather than delete it will be far easier to copy something else there with the same name.

 

Note also that if it screws up most likely you will be able to restore Apps working again on your computer but always a chance that won't repair...

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.... this DeepSilver folder was taking up over 60gb within my WindowsApp folder and I could not delete it. Kept telling me I needed permission from myself, and I could not edit security permissions. I've been scouring google for hours and you are the only one who had the answer.
