Share Your Short Film Discoveries

As I mentioned here, the other night I showed my housemate and her boyfriend a couple of short films. I really enjoy short films. Sometimes a feature length film can seem quite padded due to the fact that someone had a small idea and producers then said, "great, but now make it last 90 minutes." Short films recognize that the idea isn't necessarily long enough for a 90 minute runtime and it allows them to dive straight to it. An example of this would be the short film titled "Mama":

Title: Mama

Genre: Horror

Runtime: 2:43

Description: "Mom" comes back home...

The above example eventually became the 2013 film Mama, and personally I found it quite unnecessary.

A few years ago I got together with a friend on a small project for his media students and my friends and family, where basically we started collecting these short films in a Google document. I will post them here over time if there is enough interest, but I thought I would first see if anyone else is interested in creating our own collection here at Neowin.

The criteria is simple enough. We classed a short film as being something that was 30 minutes or less - obviously that is a guideline. Using the example above, make sure to include the title of the film, the genre and the runtime. A description isn't necessary - I struggled to think what to write for Mama - but if you can think of something that doesn't give the story away too much it might be useful for others to decide if it might be something they want to watch or not.

I'll post two more in the next post since I already mentioned them yesterday, but I look forward to seeing if anyone else wants to jump in!

I was just about to comment that I love that this has become a horror short film thread 😉

Think I've seen The Gunfighter before, and I loved it! I don't have anything to share but will be checking out your posts later today!

Are animations welcome to?

    • WordArt was cool. We now have color fonts as a substitute although Word only supports COLRv0 and COLRv1 (Fraud OS 11 only). The OpenType SVG color font format needs to be supported by Office. Adobe's apps support it
    • i backup my files, incl keepass to my proton drive using Syncback which i paid for (thanks Warwagon!). they have a free version but i can't remember what it does and doesn't do anymore. anyways, it's really, really simple and easy to use. i also periodically keep backups of my keepass onsite especially when i've changed or added a password that is important to me. if you don't wanna spend time on the syncthing setup, get syncback. haha i even got my dad to use it for his backups to usb and he doesn't even need my help!!! (thank god!)
