markwolfe Veteran Posted February 9, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 9, 2004 Sounds like a pretty cool idea. Except... Well... Eligible entries must be submitted and accepted by all the applicable module maintainers before the GNOME 2.6 UI freeze, scheduled for January 12th, 2004. :pinch:
apoc_xp
Money motivates people, you know. The people that benefit from this are the end-users so I'm all for this.
LordHatrus
Why couldn't you have told me this a month ago ?!?!?  I don't think they really needed the money to motivate anyone, however.... Most of these guys (and gals!) are pretty motivated all on their lonesome.
Mike Douglas
The bounty is still going on, the latest improvements just won't be in Gnome 2.6 (they will go into Gnome 2.8). Novell pays for it, to help some out-of-a-job programmers make the rent
Fred Derf Veteran Posted February 9, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 9, 2004 http://www.gnome.org/bounties/thats not fair!!!! :p they pay people to make their apps?! is that whats going on!? lol...that seems kinda fishy to me..but then again, things would definetly get done wouldnt they.. #1. Novell offering money to freelance programmers to fix problems and contribute the results via the GPL. vs #2. Novell asking their staff to fix problems and contribute it via the GPL. What's the difference? At least GNOME uses the GPL unlike KDE which relies on Troll Tech's QT libraries (and their licensing scheme).
