Muting forum categories in community activity feed/mini spy

Is there a way to mute updates for certain categories from showing in the Community Activity feed (on the home page) and Mini Spy, such as Home General & Off Topic Discussion > Real World News, which has pretty much become a safe haven for leftist ideology?

yes, it's the little eye icon next to the forum sections to hide from minispy. not sure if this hides from the front page feed though

 

I'm on my tablet right now otherwise I'd grab a screenshot for you but hopefully you can find the icons I'm talking about
