Messenger Plus! 3 in Development

Recommended Posts

The world's most popular MSN Messenger addon; Messenger Plus! is to move on to version 3 it has been announced! Patchou, the brains behind this amazing addon has announced on the official Plus! Forums that the new major release (version 3) is currently in the making.

Patchou says that the new update will not include new features, but will concentrate more on the user interface and accessibility aspects:

"I'm currently working on Plus! 3.00. Don't expect new features, there will be almost none. As I said, Plus! already got more than it's load of features and 99% of my users don't know half of them. That's why the new version is focusing on interfaces and accessibility, meaning that the existing features will be more easily accessible and more fun to use."

The new version isn't expected for release before March this year. May I also remind messers and Plus! users not to pester us, or any of the Plus! team about the exact release date. It's ready when it's ready. You will be able to download the new version from Mess.be as soon as it is released!

I will never go back to plus after that Spyware thing, Optional or not, Patchou is definately sneaky about it how the Sponsor is on by default and then he blames (and gets other people to blame) the 'careless user'. Yeah right  The actual app is good though, although I think maybe it has too many features that I'm never going to use

It quite plainly gives you the choice to install it or not during the installation. How is that sneaky? If you want to click blindly through installation programs, go ahead, but don't blame others if you get something installed that you actually agreed to.

I personally don't find the sponsor thing bad at all, since now you actually got to select an option before you can actually procede, not like past where if you quickly clicked 'next' you'd find the ads installed and lots of people complaining. Though it does make my msn a bit slower.

I didn't know that he finally changed that  I'll definately give it a try when it comes out, thats for sure (Y)

karmakillernz: I'm not going to click blindly through Messenger Plus setup, but I wouldn't blame someone else if they didn't know, clicking through setups is the norm.

Well if he is just going to change the interface, why make it version 3? could he be like every other developer and make it version 2.0.0.42314.213.5.353.6.78.76..1234.1

Major version numbers are easier to remember, hence why every AOL is one number higher and so forth. Besides, there are no rules for version numbers, he could call it version 86 and it wouldn't matter in the sightest. Heck MSN even skipped a version number (if I'm remembering right) to be even with AOL, hense to consumers they are equal.

sorry to be harsh, but spammers are just trying to make a living too

I think a big difference would be Patchou offers an actual product that is considered to be of quality for free, whereas spammers use 'smoke and mirror' techniques to lure you out of money.

LOL,some months ago i installed that plus thingy, and stupidly said yes to install all the spyware.Ad aware found like a 150 malwares, spyware blaster blocked 20, and spybot found the remainng 50.I hate patchou,i hate msn messenger(even if i use it evry day),and i hate !plus.can he make a living out of this?i dont think so.everyone that gets that program can get scared of the ads and dontt even install it.At least he can post in his site what are the spywares that are on his program.

OK, let's hate everyone that's trying to make a living making your lives easier. Then we'll see how you'll hate em now.

Personally, those who "accidentally" say yes to the ad thing is in the same league as those who "accidentally" open unsafe and unfamiliar attachments. They shouldn't be on a computer, or at least fined to learn how to compute better and safer. Those who bitch about how *hard* it is to spot the ad thing in MSN Plus should learn how to install things period. Sure before it was hard to avoid, but now it's so easy to spot, I'm surprised people are still having problems with that. I don't know.

Anyways, please don't hate Patchou for this. You guys just don't know how easy messaging got when I found this. It's a blessing on my computer. I love Patchou for this.

Show your love, and Happy Valentines!

Cheers

    • Nobody is buying a PS5 only for playing Until Dawn 2. Their loss.
    • If you actually used it instead of responding like a petulant child you might be surprised. I switched from Google some time ago and have been very satisfied.
    • I am one of the first people to use the DXVK technology. In the channel below you can see some videos that I have made using this technology, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey. https://www.youtube.com/@nahum7995/videos Assassin's Creed Odyssey experienced several bugs and technical issues during its first months after release. It launched with its own fair share of funny but frustrating glitches. I ran it on DXVK 9 days after its release and I played it for many hours but didn't see a single significant bug on Linux. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is widely celebrated for pushing the franchise in bold new directions and specifically for nailing several elements better than any other title in the AC series: Player Choice & Branching Narrative, The Mercenary & Cultist System, Mythological Integration, Overpowered Combat Abilities, Open World Exploration But what I'm trying to point out is that this game wasn't quite playable on most windows systems, until a few months after its release when most of the bugs were fixed. However, on Linux it ran completely flawless from day one, although DXVK had seen little development and refinement at the time. What do you think the situation will be in 2026 now that most bugs and glitches of DXVK have been completely eliminated? This is information from Google about these situations that I am quoting. In many cases, using DXVK (a translation layer that converts DirectX 9, 10, or 11 into Vulkan) can result in more stable frame times and higher performance than native Windows rendering. This happens primarily by bypassing driver overhead and multithreading draw calls that were previously restricted to a single CPU core. Older APIs (like DirectX 9 and 11) are largely single-threaded on the CPU side. DXVK translates these calls to Vulkan, which is highly multi-threaded. This reduces CPU-bound stuttering on weaker processors. In certain cases, GPU manufacturers (especially AMD) have significantly better and more modern Vulkan drivers than they do for legacy DirectX. Vulkan gives developers—and in this case, the translation layer—closer control over how resources are held in VRAM. This can prevent micro-stutters and sudden frame drops during chaotic gameplay. Yes, certain games, particularly older DirectX 9 to 11 titles, can run with fewer crashes on DXVK than on native Windows. By intercepting DirectX draw calls and translating them into the modern, highly efficient Vulkan API, DXVK bypasses the limitations and poor driver support that cause instability in aging game engines. PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 can be easily and perfectly emulated on Linux. In fact, modern Linux emulators offer high-performance upscaling, widescreen patches, and automatic controller mapping out of the box.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 PlayStation 1/2/3 games look drastically better on Linux thanks to resolution upscaling. Furthermore, it is also a fact that you cannot play many fun games on Windows either, isn't it? - The Nintendo Switch has an extensive library of exclusive games. - PlayStation has an extensive library of exclusive games - Android has "mobile-exclusive" games, meaning they are exclusive to mobile devices (iOS and Android) and aren't available on PC or consoles. And finally, it is also the case that in the next five years there will be games that millions of people will say you absolutely must play and that they want to play this specific game that released a few days ago. However, the other side of this story is that currently, absolutely no one cares that they cannot play these upcoming games right now.
