Looking for the FinderStyleforWindows zip file

Recommended Posts

Hello, I've just come across this post:

There is given a download link to the FinderStyleforWindows.zip but it doesn't download. I've searched for this file on archive.org but it doesn't even have the forum post archived.

How to download this file?

The original URL where that file was posted first is:

https://web.archive.org/web/20071027175431/http://uneasysilence.com/how-to-osx-finder-style-for-windows-explorer/

So it's an installer and a reg file actually. I specially look for this is its ability to add the frequently used folders shortcuts to the left pane of the Windows Explorer on Windows XP; a functionality of the macOS Finder. Some other similar utilities do that too but they try to change the Desktop appearance, add some upper taskbar, and similar things too. I'm not interested in macOS looks. That's why I look specifically for this file but I couldn't find it even on archive.org.

Actually, it would be wonderful if the admin of this forum repaired the links to those files.

For information, the functionality is available in Windows 10, referred to as the Quick Access bar in Windows Explorer. Considering that Windows XP has been unsupported for 6 years, no one should be using it. At least, no one should be going online with a Windows XP machine. That might also explain why you can't find the file online anymore; it's obselete now.

Actually it's an IBM T42 Laptop with Windows XP Pro factory installed and I don't think Windows Vista or later would efficiently run on it. At the same time I think that Windows XP is still a great OS. To clarify the matter, you might like to take a look at this:

Hi! I recall what you're looking for very well, I messed with it back when XP was a popular OS.

I found this deviantart thread, one of the links in it includes the Finderbar you're looking for. I'd recommend running the zip file through virustotal or something first, just to be safe.

Hope this helps you!

    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.

    • The site is pretty sparse on features / tech specs. Can I plug it into a PC/hone/Switch via USB-C and use it as an external display? If so, what's the virtual resolution of the screen, the refresh rate, PPI of the image etc? Is the text crisp enough to use for coding at say 12pt? Is it good enough for playing dark games, like say Path of Exile 2? How about fast games like car racing games? Just how do they expect anyone to order this thing without giving out all this info?
