Need a free/open source CMS

Question

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a CMS that's kind of like a hybrid between the groupware and forum offerings. I need a CMS that offers a help desk type system.. I'll explain..

For the user:

A simple form to submit a request, with all the appropiate fields.

For the operator:

A list of all the requests submitted, in a work queue. The ability to sort by different groups is needed, also.

It's a fairly simple design, does anyone know of a CMS available that can do this?

Thank you very much in advance!

When I look for programs, I usually look to sourceforge, or freshmeat, or rpmfind.

Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but sounds like a PHP-type web app?

I've heard that e107 is pretty good although I don't know if it has these specific features since I don't use it myself

http://www.e107.org

also check out https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=135797 and http://www.hotscripts.net/ for other CMS systems

for an ASP based system I would recommend '#' Portal.... http://www.sharpportal.com/ .... but again, I'm don't know if it has these specific features

If you know exactly what you want, it wouldn't be that hard just to write something yourself

Yeah, I've had a good trudge around sourceforge to no avail. Haven't tried freshmeat or rpmfind though, will check that out, thanks.

To be perfectly honest, my knowledge on the coding that goes on behind the scenes for these kind of web applications is for the most part, nadda. PHP, ASP, it's all pretty much over my head (that's not entirely true, I know a bit of SQL). I'm looking for anything that will do the job, anything that I may be able to adapt (that I will of course learn the neccesary language for).

I'm thinking of taking some of the freeware groupware solutions out there and turning those into what I need. But yeah, I'm rambling.

I was just wondering if anyone knew something that fill the bill that I described in my first post more closely.

http://opensourcecms.com/

Has a bunch of different ones and they let you try them out a little to see if you like them.

I think we have a winner for the "Most Relevant Reply" category!

Now, why didn't *I* think of looking at a site so obviously named? :pinch:

Some people happen to like PHP-Nuke.

Most people won't use it because of the security flaws that never seem to get patched, but as a CMS and its functions, it's not a bad script. It is bloated in well, most places, but it gets the job done and there's thousands of themes, though not all of them good, out there.

Support is never short, with the huge community on phpnuke.org and mods/addons everywhere you look.

If they patched the security holes, and created a theming engine like the one found in IPB it could be quite good.

http://www.postnuke.com

there's a module that tracks a project's progress. you can see it in action at http://www.pnflashgames.com over in the right hand block

or you can go here for a list of PN supported modules: http://www.lexebus.net/index.php?module=pagesetter&tid=3 (there seems to be a helpdesk one too)

Thanks for all these suggestions! They're real gems!

trigger_my_passion: Thanks a ton for the link. It seems about perfect for our needs. I'm gonna give it a shot and see if I can adapt it to our needs, as it almost fits the bill exactly.

Thanks again everyone!
