Indeed asking for a reference

Is anyone familiar with indeed prompting a reference letter. I'm not sure if this is something the company requested or if indeed is just trying to get me to waste time. All it says is 'request a reference letter from one of your connections. This reference letter will be sent directly to the employer of this job. 

 

Anyone have any idea?

References are not unusual when applying for a job.

 

As for Indeed asking for a reference, I would cut them out and ask the potential employer if they made the request, then hand it to them if they did.
