GNU/ Linux Desktop Thread is split into 4 threads over the course of a year to reduce clutter. 1Q - January through March. 2Q - April through June. 3Q - July through September. 4Q - October through December. Posting Guidelines - Embedded images should be smaller than or equal to 1440x900 (preferably 1024x768). - The file size for image previews should be no larger than 750 KB. - Images linked externally should be no larger than 3 MB. - If you plan to img-embed your desktop, please try to keep it under 100k (It's recommended that you link it, externally). - Stay within the board rules, no matter how yummy you may believe it to be. - If you are going to quote, there isn't a need to quote an img-embeded picture - Just don't do it. Please just reference the post by page number/page link/etc. - The desktops thread is not to be used as a means to post images of a pornographic or otherwise provocative nature. We do not support a babes forum and neither will we in an unofficial capacity. Please help to keep the thread relevant and safe to browse for everyone. - The moderators of this forum reserve the right to edit or remove your posts as necessary so they may comply with our Community Rules and so that this thread remains on topic. - In the interests of keeping the thread on topic it is strongly urged that you format your posts in the following order: Themes: Name/where you got it (with link would be nice). 4CxbqFxVnstmA Veteran Posted July 2, 2021 Veteran Share Posted July 2, 2021 (edited) This is standard Pop!_OS 20.04, including the wallpaper. I use the extension "Dash to Dock". I like it on the left, sort of like old Ubuntu Unity. And it uses screen real estate better than a dock at the bottom. I've really only slightly modified the out-of-the-box experience here, as I like what comes as standard. I know lots of people are exited about the new Pop!_OS 21.04 and its Cosmic desktop. It looks cool, but I'll wait until the next LTS (22.04, I gather) to upgrade. I must be getting old. PS Hi, Barney! Congrats on the PhD! I have a full list of things I do to it after installing (as I do with whatever system I install). One thing I do like is that I can change the clock. From my notes on Ubuntu MATE 21.04: Quote To get the clock to show, for instance, "Sunday, 25 April, 9.00", I need to use the following at the command line: dconf write /org/mate/panel/objects/object-2/prefs/format "'custom'" dconf write /org/mate/panel/objects/object-2/prefs/custom-format "'%A, %e %B, %_H.%M'" If there is a problem, it's likely the clock is not at "object-2", so I'll need to find where these settings are and make the substitution. All of them. Even on Preferences. Then get GNOME TWEAKS from software store and shut off ALL animations: My Zorin OS is flying like an F-16 after doing all that.
