Is there a method for allowing speakers and headphones to be plugged in at the same time?

Recommended Posts

Currently the way it works for me is I plug in headphones and it routes all sound to the headphones, I am wondering if there is a method that would allow me to leave the headphones plugged in but choose to have the sound output via the speakers. Also is there anyway of having separate volume profiles, i,e, headphone volume at 20% but speakers at 100% depending on what device is plugged in or active?

You can use something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Speaker-Headphone-Audio-Splitter/dp/B000067RC4/ref=sr_1_2?crid=GXWSK4WH6VAM&keywords=audio%2Bsplitter&qid=1653674597&sprefix=audio%2Bsplitter%2Caps%2C103&sr=8-2&th=1

I think volume is controlled by the device AND system sound. For example:

If system is at 100%, and your speaker is set to 50%, that's what you hear, but..

If the system is set to 50% And your speaker is at 100%, you only hear the 50%.

That what you were asking?

I don't need a splitter, the speakers have there own jack that they plug into, as does the headphones, but when the headphones are plugged in, it takes over as the primary sound output (all sound is routed to the headphones) what I want to do is keep the headphones plugged in, but be able to switch to the speakers without having to unplug the headphones. The other half of my question is this: the system does not detect the headphones as a separate device, therefore any change in the volume settings affect the speakers when the headphones are not plugged in. I want to know if there is a method of making it so the headphones are detected as there own device thereby allowing me to control the volume separate that of the speakers.

are we talking on PC or what are we plugging into?

if PC it looks to be super simple: https://www.minitool.com/news/play-sound-multiple-output-devices-windows-10.html

Except in this situation the headphones do not show up as a device, therefore I can't follow the directions outlined in the guide you provided

ah yeah one of those drivers that combines the port.

a quick and dirty solution would be buy a usb dac and then you'd be able to set both as output.

I don't know if other brands have it, but if you have a desktop PC with realtek audio, there are options for that in its software.

That did the trick, thanks!
