Now you are nit picking to suit what you think you hear or what you want to hear.

I am not interested in this anymore.

I think I know what you are trying to say with your smart ass "now we are getting somewhere".... But ok.

You win. I don't care for this discussion anymore. I said all I wanted to say.

Not nitpicking.  You said you didn't care if Batgirl was Latina ... which is why I'm now questioning about the actress and what about her is "woke"

I'm just trying to understand wtf is "woke" about this (and seemingly every damn thing else lately)...instead of it just being trash in the eyes of David Zaslav.

Another example (First example is bottom of the last page) in my case would be the new Jurassic Park movie, that had a really stupid 30 second elevator scene, in which the female lead tells us she likes red headed women, to imply she's a lesbian. Which her being a lesbian contributed nothing to the story whatsoever other than to "Check a box".

Oh, I think we all know how you in particular feel about LGBTQ in movies....

I'm not against being fed up of having to sit through box checking scenes like that.

Star Trek Voyager is my favorite Trek and had seven seasons of a female captain, almost 30 years ago, more recently I really enjoyed a Muslim Ms. Marvel series. When it is done right then equality or "box checking" doesn't even need to come into the equation.

Instead we get throwaway "box checking" comments or behaviors that change the character completely from one scene to the next, but at the same time adds nothing to the plot.

We will never know why Batgirl got cancelled, but Warner Bros preferred to piss away $70Mn or more to never release it.

Regarding checking boxes... I'm sure just about every movie I've seen had something thrown in which does nothing more than add to the run time which itself doesn't advance the plot.  I haven't seen the new Jurassic movie, I've heard it is hot garbage, but I doubt that 30 second scene described above is the cause.

$70m (though I've heard up to $100m due to COVID) for a DC theatrical release really isn't that much.  I still think (based on what I've read) it was down to David Zaslav refusing to release a subpar (!= woke) movie.  We have had enough of those in the DCEU.

And this is what I don't understand....  https://tvline.com/2022/08/09/black-canary-movie-status-hbo-max-jurnee-smollett/

You go ahead and cancel a nearly completed movie that features Michael F'n Keaton returning as Batman, which is something nearly everyone wants to see, but progress forward with a Black Canary movie that isn't even off the ground yet?  Baffling.

Of course, Keaton could appear in the Black Canary movie as well... but until that is confirmed in some form or fashion, this is a waste.

That one probably has a small enough budget tagged to it that they don't mind letting it go ahead.  From what I heard the batgirl movie had a budget that ballooned out of control at one point.   This before the added costs to market the thing.

I'm almost 68, so I'm struggling to understand what "woke" means (other than being a pejorative used against so-called "liberals" by so-called "conservatives", stupid and inaccurate labels in any case), other than perhaps "woke" seems to apply to people who care about social issues (shouldn't we all?) and don't want to see people excluded because of their race or income level? I mean, I agree for the most part that the DC tv shows on the CW have been a hot mess, except perhaps for THE FLASH with Grant Gustin, but as an old guy who grew up with the 1950s George Reeves ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN tv show, I consider MAN OF STEEL to be the finest Superman representation on film ever created. And I was one of those '50s kids who ran up and down the street with a red towel for a cape, pinned to my t-shirt!

Woke is not used to describe actual inclusion and acceptance.

Woke is used as a negative when people fell forced to accept the radical inclusion idea of "woke" people who chose to add some forced inclusion, even though there is a much better way. Like, treating everyone as equal - for dog sakes.

Not by making quatas of the color or sexually that SHOULD fill every movie and business position, regardless of merit. Ohh just add a black guy and a lesbian and we are good now.

Of course you don't understand - such idiocy never happened before.

People of color, feminists - originally fought to be treated equally! Not to meet quatas..

This is so stupid. And I am not sure why people cannot see it.

I am all for support for any minority but the forced inclusion just for a checkbox.... This is really not the way forward.

Every human being does deserve equal chance. There are  poor unsuccessful people in every gender and race.

The idea of equality is that not matter what color or gender or sex orientation - you have the same chance as everyone different - given the same conditions.

It does not mean special preference - otherwise we are.going back.to.what started.the resistance against descrimination.

Woke are willing to bend it so everyone is included even if they don't cut it.

It is like school participating trophy - you did not win but you must be mentioned on the award ceremony -just becuase

Thank you for your explanation. I also hear people I know as leftists/liberals use the term "woke" as a pejorative, so I think it's all a very subjective assessment, like what's a "good" movie and what's a "bad" movie. But I do think you've given me an angle on grasping one large portion of the common use of the term. Cheers!

I'm primarily a centrist, but I do lean left of center, unless I see crazy nonsense on either side of the spectrum. Things sure were different back in the '60s and '70s! 😲

The '80s were "okay" to me, only because of the popular music of that time, and the great deluge of silly/cheesy "b-movies!" 😁

Seen a lot of comments about Batgirl being "woke" and thus cancelled .... and maybe I'm just tired of that word being thrown around all Willy nilly ... but how did Batgirl being "woke" directly lead to its cancellation?

From my understanding David Zaslav, the new boss at Warner Bros., hasn't been afraid to make sweeping changes (like HBO Max) or cancelling projects like Batgirl because he "didn't believe in it."

Hopefully Zaslav's vision and "10-year plan" for DC produces better content than we've received in the past.  Sure, there have been some good DC movies...but for every good DC movie you have several others where the climatic ending is the mother's name being Martha.  For all we know, Batgirl, could have just been another subpar DC entry and Mr. Zaslav was like, "nope, not on my watch", and had nothing to do with "woke" (whatever the hell that means)

Anyway, just tired of reading x,y,z was cancelled or failed or whatever because "woke" ... come up with or think of something more original.

Personally, I think it got axed because of the hot mess the TV show has been, along with its plummeting numbers...

Batgirl could have been really bad yeah, in the 60s she was comic relief in the TV series, and since I do not delve into the comic book universe of Batman, the movies and TV series is about all I had to go on :)

I dunno... Batman and Robin were WAAAAAAAAAAY more comical than Batgirl was.... She was pretty much the "straight guy" of that old show...

    • SKG Hand Massager with Heat OS500 hands on by Steven Parker I was offered the chance to test out the SKG Hand Massager with Heat OS500, and full disclosure, they let me keep it regardless of my findings. Anyway, I jumped at the chance due to my long hours sitting at my desk, mousing around. Apologies for the knife cut across the top of the box; that was my doing, being a bit too heavy-handed with opening up the outer packaging. First up, what's in the box: SKG Hand Massager with Heat OS500 1x Type-C charging cable User Manual 1-Year Warranty (card) In short, everything you need to get started. According to the official Amazon listing, here are the key features: Full-Hand Air Compression: OS500 wraps your fingers, palm, and wrist with multi-chamber air compression for a complete hand relaxation experience. The extended massage chamber helps cover more of the hand and wrist area than standard palm-only hand massagers Palm Kneading with 6 Modes & 6 Intensities: Built-in palm kneading rollers add a hands-on massage feel, while 6 preset modes and 6 pressure levels let you choose the comfort level that fits your day—from gentle relaxation to a firmer full-hand massage 3 Heat Levels with Cooling Fan: Choose from 104°F, 113°F or 122°F warmth to suit different seasons and comfort preferences. The built-in cooling fan helps reduce stuffiness during heated sessions, keeping your hand feeling fresh and comfortable Easy Visual Display & Smart Timer: The digital image display clearly shows massage area, mode, intensity, heat level, and remaining time at a glance. Select 10, 15, or 20-minute sessions for quick office breaks, evening relaxation, or everyday hand care Rechargeable, Cordless & Comfortable: A 3000mAh battery supports over 90 minutes of full-function use on a full charge, with convenient USB-C charging. The soft inner lining, smooth ABS/PU finish, and premium black-gold design make OS500 ideal for home, office, or gifting With all that out of the way, here are my own findings. I gave it a try on both left and right hands, and as you can maybe see from the above YouTube Short, (sorry for the shaky video), my whole hand fits in, but my wrist barely enters the Hand Massager. I was able to push through a bit more with my fingertips extending out the other end to get a bit of massaging on the start of my wrist. Usage For some reason, there is a strap that is very difficult to fasten to my wrist with one hand. I am not sure what function it has, and it isn't mentioned in the user manual. The only thing I could find was in the product images that claimed "wrist precision". Unlike the Bob and Brad Hand Massager, this device does not massage the wrist anyway, even though a "wrist mode" is mentioned, which must be for smaller hands than I have, as it is mainly intended for the hand and fingers. In addition, for its steeper price, there are no disposable gloves provided in the box, which is a bit of an issue considering the internal cover (which appears to be elasticated nylon) cannot be removed for washing; so you are left with only one choice: always thoroughly wash your hands before using it. I can imagine this thing getting a bit grimy after a period of use, and that is a bit of a shame. With that said, the buttons on the device, from left to right, do the following: Heat button: 3-level heat control at 104°F, 113°F, or 122°F Mode button: Auto mode Circular mode Soothing mode Relax mode Palm and fingers mode Palm and wrist mode Intensity button: from (First-time users) 15Ka, 25Ka, 35Ka, 45Ka, 55Ka, 60Ka (Intensive relief) Knead button: on or off (6 pressure levels) Power button: Long-press to turn on or off Cooling button: turn on or off the cooling fan Also, in the product imagery, it states there are 36 "custom modes," but nowhere is it listed what these modes are. I can only imagine that they mean a combination of all of the above settings in different intensity levels. The device itself seems to rely on a single "kneading" mechanism located at the palm area of the hand, which spins when in use, and the other massage features are mainly utilized through the air sacs, increasing and decreasing at various levels on the hand and fingers. I am not sure it offered too much relief for someone who is typing and operating a mouse for hours at a time; further testing may be required. It does feel nice, though. Finally, you may be wondering how this fits into the scope of a tech website? Well, let me tell you something: sometimes I sit for up to 15 hours working on Neowin, and although I take breaks in between, it takes a toll on my body. I think in the immediate absence of a partner to apply relief, a good massager like this Hand Massager can shed the strains of the day in just a couple of 15-minute bursts. On the official website, this has an MSRP of $99.99, but luckily for our readers, it is selling at $10 off for just $89.99 right now on Amazon. SKG Hand Massager with Heat OS500 for $89.99 (with $10 off coupon), $99.99 MSRP For me, this gets a thumbs hands(?) down. However, it could be improved by making it so that the protective covering could be removed and thrown into the washing machine, or get yourself some disposable gloves to use with it.
