I have two desktops and one laptop.  My desktops are used for gaming, movie watching, checking email, and general web-surfing.  I haven't fired up my laptop in almost two years since I stopped working remotely.

I'm not really sure; just off the top of my head I think somewhere around a dozen ranging from an Atari 800, TI-99/4A, IBM PC/XT, a 486, and a bunch of Pentium 1 to Pentium 4 and Core 2 Duo HPs and Dells. Their purpose is to sit forgotten out in my storage building in case I ever need or want to do anything with them. I probably won't. The only one I actually use regularly is this one I'm typing on now, a Ryzen 7 desktop.

I use three PC's.

Personal:
AMD R5 5600x
ASUS ROG Strix B550-A Gaming
32GB DDR4 3200Mhz
ASUS ROG Strix NVIDIA 3070Ti
3TB NMVe Gen 3

Work Laptop:
Razer Blade 14
AMD R9 6900HX
16GB DDR4 3200Mhz
NVIDIA 3060

Contractor Laptop:
Lenovo ThinkPad
Intel i5-10310U
16GB DDR4 3200Mhz
iGPU

I've got 4 active computers at home and 2 that I've retired and are just sitting currently.

Primary computer is used as my HTPC in the living room

I've got one computer I use as my Plex server

I've got an Asus laptop which I don't use too frequently anymore; mostly used now when I need to remote in for work if I can't make it into the office.

And I've got my Steam Deck which technically still counts :D

I'll have to get the specs of each once I'm home sometime

Man, this thread gonna make me feel guilty af, but here goes:

M1 Pro Macbook / 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD - Every day travel
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X / 32GB RAM / RTX 2080 - Home desktop
HP x360 laptop i7 / 16GB RAM / 256GB SSD - Formerly a work PC they let me keep, reformatting to sell
ASUS i7 / 16GB RAM / GTX 1060 gaming laptop - Planning to sell this, the Steam Deck is just for mobile gaming
M1 Mac Mini - base model for testing purposes

Really, my desktop and MBP are the beasts I use and thoroughly enjoy... but the RTX 2080 is becoming hard to keep up with, using a widescreen monitor @ 3440x1440. If I can sell off the two older laptops, I'll likely use it to upgrade the GPU but damn they're expensive... :ermm:

Primary Desktop

Intel i7-4790K, 32GB RAM, 1TB+2TB SSD, RTX 2070, 24" 16:10 Asus ProArt monitor

Primary Laptop

M1 Macbook Air, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD

Old/Cheap Laptops for Event Video Production Playback ( vMix / Slideshows / Graphics )

Toshiba 14", i5-4210U, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD  (former primary laptop)
Dell Inspiron 15", AMD A6-6310, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD
Asus 11", Celeron N4000, 4GB RAM, 64GB SSD

That's a new number to me when it comes to a laptop! If you don't mind me asking, what on earth are you using 96GB of RAM for? Media editing? Powering the Matrix? :p

LOL!

Part of it is my workflow, part of it is bad habit, and part of it is futureproofing because the machine is not upgradable.

On an average day I am running:

Docker with MSSQL (amd64 arch).

Parallels with Windows 11.

     -Visual Studio 2022.

     -Beyond Compare 4.

DataGrip.

Webstorm.

Android Studio.

Xcode.

Rider.

Royal TSX with multiple remote machines open.

Multiple finder tabs.

Safari.

Multiple tabs of Warp terminal emulator.

--The bad habit is that while I use all of these in a given day, I tend to not close them, so they are available the next time.  Due to the machine not being serviceable, excessive and heavy swapping just shortens the longevity of the SSD.  There is no longer a discrete GPU option, so the RAM you have is shared. The future proofing part is because of the above, and I expect it to grow/increase in memory usage.  At this time, I only use up to ~48-64GB of RAM, so yeah I went a little overkill, but I have room to grow.

I currently have 3 PCs.

1. Old one that I use just to play with Temporary Linux installs.

2. Mini-PC that I use mainly to play VR games with my Quest2, and I also have it as backup in case something happens with my main rig.

3. Main rig I built a few years ago,  which I keep upgrading every now and then. I also use this one for gaming with the Quest 2 sometimes if I want to play more intensive games such as Half-life Alyx or No Man's Sky.

I guess tablets don't count here, because have many of those lol.

3 active laptops + 3 old laptops sitting idle. These are all for my personal use as we only have shared PCs at work, and you can't do any of that work remotely anyway

Main:
MSI Creator Z16 HX Studio (i9 13950HX, 64GB, 2TB SSD, Geforce RTX 4070 Laptop, Win 11 Pro)
Use it for everything, so productivity, editing, gaming, general stuff etc (except not much use for mobile now, connected to two monitors)

Secondary:
Macbook Pro 13 M1 (2020, 16GB, Ventura)
Media, travelling, Mac-fooling-around

Third:
Lenovo Thinkpad S3 Yoga 14 (i5, 8GB, Geforce 940M, Win 10 Pro)
Replaced this ageing machine by the MSI recently, for now it basically just mostly functions as mediocre media device to TV via HDMI. Will replace this in a year or two - or just start using the Mac for same purposes too. I guess I could start using the Yoga tablet mode more now that it's getting less usage, would be okay ebook reader?

And the other older ones that might get used once or twice a year for nostalgia/compatibility reasons (at least Toshiba):
- Asus Vivobook E402WA (Win 10 Pro)
- Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 (Win 7 Pro)
- Toshiba Portege 4010 (Win XP Pro)

Hmmm, an interesting thread; I fully expected what I've seen as people frequenting Neowin are no doubt going to have a few more machines than the average normie. I've downsized of late really - maybe it's old age.

I have a main Ryzen rig (bit old now but still doing the business)

  • Ryzen 2600x
  • 8GB Nvidia 2070 GPU
  • 32GB RAM
  • a few NVME and M.2 SATA scratch drives
  • 3 x 24" Dell infinity displays

My more portable solution right now is a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Chromebook - does what I need for a lot of my SaaS solutions

Finally, I'm rocking a custom-built media server running unRAID

  • Intel i5-10400 CPU
  • Asus Prime B560-M mobo
  • 16GB RAM
  • 22TB of storage with SSD cache

I have a number of spaces at my disposal from previous builds, but they are the main ones that get daily use.

In no particular order.

1# MacBook Pro 2019 16"

-Base model

2# MacBook Pro 2023 16"

-Base model

3# Living room PC.

-This has Mac Pro clone case that cost about 1200€. I just wanted it because of the desing and because it is in the living room. It has Windows 11 with Windows Media Center. RTX 3060TI, ASRock Taichi x570, AMD 5950x, 4x cable tuners, 2Tb Samsung SSD and 6x WD Red 10Tb HDD.  Sony XBR-X950H 85".

4# Desktop

-Windows 10, Jonsplus i100 Pro, i7 7700k, GA-Z270N-WIFI , RTX 3060, Dell UltraSharp U3417W, 1Tb Samsung SSD.

4# HP EliteBook 8570p Retro laptop.

-Windows 7 Ultimate. i7 3520M, Radeon 7570M, Intel 520 SSD 320Gb, 16Gb DDR.

5# Retro PC (work in progress).

-Windows 98 SE. Asus P2B-VM, 3DFX Voodoo3 2000.

Nine. We have nine computers... I wouldn't admit this anywhere else other than here..! Images below include all except my wife's laptop!

1. Dell XPS 15 (2020) - Windows 11 - Intel 10th Gen i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD (system), 2TB SSD (storage), 15" 4k Display

Primary device for WFH and personal, generally docked to a 27" 4k monitor.

2. Apple MacBook Pro 13 (2017) - MacOS 13 - Intel 7th Gen i5, 8GB RAM (int), 128GB SSD (int), 13" Retina Display.

Wifes current laptop going strong (except storage, why can't I upgrade this?!).

3. Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga (2013) - Windows 11 - Intel 4th Gen i5, 8GB RAM (int), 256GB m.2 SSD (System), 2TB 2.5" SSD (storage), 12.5" Full HD Display

Previous primary device, still holds its own (unless I'm using Photoshop), so use it around the house as it's much lighter than my new laptop, and it's a touchscreen/pen convertible!

4. Apple MacBook Pro 13 (2011) - MacOS 13 - Intel 2nd Gen i5, 16GB RAM, 256GB 2.5" SSD, 13" Display

Wifes old laptop, restored, upgraded and my test laptop running the latest MacOS, my first Apple since the Powerbook 160. Recent battery blowout.

5. Acer Aspire One PAV70 (2011) - Windows 10 - Intel Atom, 2GB RAM, 64GB 2.5" SSD, 10" Display

Netbook I bought for traveling, currently setup as a rudimentary NAS and Plex Server running Tiny10.

6. Fujitsu Lifebook T4220 (2008) - Windows Vista/7 - Intel Core2Duo, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 13" XGA Display

Early Tablet Convertible (wacom pen only), my sisters old laptop which I used as a primary device between my old 2007 desktop dying and my ThinkPad. Was running Win10 slowly, but now dual booting Vista and Win7 as a bit of a time machine for funsies sake. Running Windows 7, it holds its own surprisingly well, even with browsing!

7. Fujitsu Lifebook S6120 (2003) - Windows 98/XP - Intel Pentium M - 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD, 13" XGA Display

My old laptop recently restored, again reverted to Win 98 and XP dual booting time machine with some great old games and software. Remember when File explorer navigated quickly and switching apps took as long as the keystroke?!

8. Compaq Armada 1130T (1996) - Windows 95 - Intel Pentium - 16MB RAM, 1GB HDD, 10" SVGA Display

Dads old work laptop running Win95, hoping to get Win3.1 on it too. Not a gaming machine by any means, and a touch underpowered for running anything more than Office 97.

9. Amstrad PC1640 HD20 (1987) - Windows 3 - Intel 8088 (upgraded to NEC V30), 640KB RAM, 20MB HD (upgraded to 30MB SD Card), 12" EGA Display

My first PC, recently resurrected with a SD card as a HD replacement (I didn't park the heads when I packed it up 20 years ago). Last month had a power supply failure sadly, in pieces on the desk. DOS 3.2, GEM Desktop & managed to squeeze Win 3.0 onto it, in full EGA colour after a processor upgrade. Solitaire was painful, but the sun stuck it's tongue out!

Oh man, The Amstrad. My dad had one of them as a kid! Can't remember if it was the 1512 or the 1640 but it ran DOS. All I remember is it was the machine I learned the 'park' command on. ha ha

    • JBL BAR 800 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos soundbar is an amazing deal today by Sayan Sen This Amazon Prime Day 2026 sales so far we have had a couple of nice deals related to sound and audio. First we have the Sennheiser HD 600 at its lowest ever price of just $225. Next we also have the Beats Studio Pro at its lowest price ever at just $150. However perhaps you prefer your gear to sound great on a larger scale, like throughout the room. In that case an all-in-one soundbar system can help and currently JBL's BAR 800 is a great deal for sure as it's up for grabs at just $600 (purchase link under the specs table down below). One thing that should be appreciated a lot about these JBL soundbars is their spec sheet and the frequency response data it provides. The firm is honest about it as JBL confirms the subwoofer is able to go down to 35 Hz at -6dB or F6. This means it should be covering 40Hz and up very well, where most of the bass lies. You miss out on a lot of sub-bass but that is to be expected given the price point and the subwoofer driver size. Speaking of which, it is a 10-inch driver and promises a max output power of 300 watts at 1% THD (total harmonic distortion). JBL also claims the system will provide you with a "True Dolby Atmos" experience. The surround speakers are wireless and battery-powered which means setting them up should be really convenient. The technical specs of the JBL BAR 800 are given in the table below: Specification Value Channel Configuration 5.1.2-channel soundbar system Dolby Atmos Yes, with 2 up-firing drivers Total System Power Output 720 W Soundbar Power Output 340 W Surround Speaker Power Output 2 × 40 W Subwoofer Power Output 300 W Soundbar Drivers 3 × 46×90 mm racetrack drivers, 3 × 20 mm tweeters, 2 × 70 mm up-firing full-range drivers Surround Speaker Drivers 1 × 46×90 mm racetrack driver (each speaker) Subwoofer Driver 10-inch (260 mm) wireless subwoofer Frequency Response 35 Hz – 20 kHz (-6 dB) Audio Inputs Optical, Bluetooth, Chromecast built-in, AirPlay, Alexa Multi-Room Music (MRM), USB* HDMI Inputs 1 HDMI video input HDMI Output 1 HDMI eARC output HDCP Version 2.3 HDR Pass-Through HDR10, Dolby Vision Bluetooth Version 5.0 Wi-Fi Version 6, 6E Streaming Services Chromecast built-in, Apple AirPlay, Alexa MRM Get it at the link below: JBL Bar 800-5.1.2-Channel Dolby Atmos soundbar with Detachable Surround Speakers (Black): $599.85 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US with Prime) Prime subscription can be cancelled within three business days. • Microsoft releases PowerToys v0.100.1, fixes a bug that made remapped keys misbehave by Ivan Jenic Microsoft just released PowerToys v0.100.1, a patch update that addresses several stability and behavior issues found in v0.100.0. The v0.100.0 patch was a significant update for PowerToys, as it introduced all sorts of new features and additions, such as a rebuilt Shortcut Guide, a Command Palette Extension Gallery, webcam overlay support in ZoomIt, and more. However, the v0.100.0 version also introduced some bugs and stability issues. And now, Microsoft is addressing these issues in the new patch. The most impactful fix in this release perhaps is in Keyboard Manager, where remapped modifier keys were being delivered as system-key events, causing unexpected behavior in apps. The clearest example of this was Alt-to-Backspace remaps, deleting whole words instead of a single character. So, if you thought there was an issue with your keyboard, Microsoft just confirmed that it was PowerToys. Beyond the Keyboard Manager fix, v0.100.1 also addresses several other issues. It fixes a bug with Power Display that was preventing monitors from waking from standby correctly. Additionally, the new update patches Quick Access crashes on launch, and resolves a Shortcut Guide crash that occurred when switching between sidebar sections. Here’s the full changelog: Color Picker Fixed a bug where the main Color Picker window could appear inside the zoomed-in picker view Command Palette Fixed Run history initialization in AOT builds Fixed a bug where the Performance Monitor dock item could show ??? after restart Fixed the Hibernate command using the Sleep icon Limited the "pin to dock" dialog to displays where the dock is enabled Keyboard Manager Fixed modifier keys remapped to non-modifier keys being delivered as system-key events, which caused unexpected behavior in apps such as Alt-to-Backspace deleting whole words Power Display Fixed a bug where selecting On in the monitor power-state control did not wake a monitor from standby Fixed built-in display detection and brightness control on dual-GPU laptops where the internal panel is driven by the discrete GPU PowerToys Run Fixed VS Code Workspaces discovery after VS Code moved recently opened workspace data to shared storage Quick Access Fixed Quick Access flyout crashes caused by unhandled XAML exceptions during launch or page navigation Shortcut Guide Fixed a crash when navigating between Shortcut Guide sidebar sections Fixed number-key rendering in shortcut manifests and added a Postman shortcut manifest Updated bundled shortcut manifests to use the literal number-key token so number keys render correctly across apps ZoomIt Fixed a race condition in audio initialization for ZoomIt video recording You can download PowerToys v0.100.1 from the official GitHub releases page.

    • Grand Theft Auto VI pricing revealed alongside Ultimate Edition and pre-loading details by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Last week, Rockstar revealed Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders will be starting soon, and just a day ahead of that, now the studio has announced the official pricing for the highly anticipated game. This has been a hotly debated topic among fans and industry veterans for a long time, considering the game is expected to be the biggest entertainment product launch ever. The confirmed pricing for the Grand Theft Auto VI standard edition is $79.99, which Rockstar says gives access to the "single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet." This follows what most of our readers thought would happen with the pricing too. At the same time, a $99.99 Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition has been confirmed as well, which lands with "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story." Pre-ordering will also give fans extra bonuses, including a Vintage Vice City Pack of cosmetic items as well as a free month of GTA+. Head to the official website of the game here to check out all the cosmetic rewards the Ultimate Edition and pre-orders bring. Interestingly, the studio does not mention Grand Theft Auto VI multiplayer at all in today's announcement. Perhaps this will arrive later, following the campaign launch, or the studio is keeping that reveal for a later date. Digital pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI will begin on June 25, 2026, at midnight local time across regions for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The title is slated to launch on November 19 on those same platforms. Pre-loading for Grand Theft Auto VI will kick off on November 12, giving players a week to get the game ready on their consoles. As for the physical edition, Take-Two has confirmed that this will be available without a disc, with the box only containing a download code inside. This will be purchasable starting November 12, giving players who take this route time to pre-load the title as well.
