MYIE2 rulez dudes!! I liked firebird when I first saw it, but after using it for a day, I uninstalled it and decided to wait until version 0.8 at least. It's just so slow and even with all the extentions it doesn't come near the usability of MYIE2.

Believe me, I hate IE. It totaly sucks. I wish MYIE2 used Gecko engine with the same interface, then we'd have a hands down winner.

umm no theyre not.. like i said, ive thoroughly tested Firebird and checked out practically every plugin there is, and the functionality, compared to MyIE2, is sub-par, at best..

again, most of these features are NOT in Firebird..

well, you must be blind and biased because I use or used to use every feature that have you listed

Care to tell me what feature is not in Firebird?

i dont have Firebird installed right now, but im pretty sure advanced drag-dropping (and searching for that matter) is unavailable in FB.. also i dont remember URL aliasing, easy proxy and download control (one button ActiveX, Java, videos, sounds, etc. toggling) configuration, autosaving tabs (you can set to double click on a tab and it will save it automatically in the predetermined folder.. this is very convenient if its a picture or something..), actual page zooming and auto page scrolling (this may be supported by FB, not sure)..

like i said before, Firebird is a good browser with a good engine, but you simply cannot argue with the fact that MyIE2 has more functionality..

i tried FB for a week or so, and after getting frustrated by it not having many little functions that MyIE2 spoiled me with (yes, ive tried plugins), i decided to switch back..

i think MyIE is nice, but it seems sorta glitchy(at least to me it does) and i think it's ugly. that's why i go with firebird, it looks nice and slick, but that's just me.

ill give you this.. MyIE2 is not the prettiest thing youve seen, and compared to FB its down right ugly.. but then again, if its looks youre going for, why not chose Opera?

theres a plugin or an actual feature for every thing in that list (cept the double click tabs, Im not sure if the advanced tab browsing extension give that feature).

Im not arguing the fact that MyIE is a great frontend (not browser), but the final fact that makes firebird better is this: chromes, learn to customize them and you got the most versatile browser.

Also, what drags MyIE points is that it uses IE rendering engine, and engine that cant even draw png's correctly (however, someone told me that Avant browser fixed this so correct me if MyIE did it too)

hhmm i may try Firebird again when it hits 1.0.. for now, ill stick to MyIE2..

just out of curiosity, what is this chromes thing you mention? plugins or what?

configuration files, like .ini or .sys for windows Firebird has this files with .css extensions, of course, this is not for the normal user, but Firebird itself is not for a normal user

hhmm seems interesting.. style sheets editing? does that work for the frontend, or just browser functions? is there a place that tells me how this interacts with the browser itself and perhaps some tutorials or something?

see now, THIS is interesting stuff.. tho isnt this the way plugins are written for FB?

both frontend and functions, you can learn from some examples here: http://texturizer.net/firebird/tips.html

that some things you can do but you are not limited to

Oh no, we can't afford to spare 30MB of memory these days...  Why, our computers will simply grind to a halt under that amount of strain...  ;)

Really, IE uses as much if not more memory when its run.  Microsoft has taken steps however, to hide the real memory usage from its users.

yes i can spare it, but this myth that firebird somehow uses less memory then Mozilla itself is what i was trying to point out. i'm useing it right now and love it, i was not trying to knock it at all.

Memory comparison between Firebird 0.6 and Internet Explorer 6, with the same 3 pages open. (Firebird tabs, IE windows)

Internet Explorer seems to us (gasp) 2 MB more

:o .

Of corse that is just the executable. We are not adding in whatever that extra little bit that windows preloads so IE starts up faster.

also we are not counting the multiple IE dependencies hidden in svchost (System services) :shifty:

    • Microsoft wants to end printer driver headaches with Windows Ready Print by Usama Jawad A few days ago, Microsoft released Windows 11 Experimental build 26300.8553, bringing a ton of enhancements such as Start menu customization, search improvements, Taskbar polish, and other minor UI tweaks. Another relatively major enhancement snuck deep within the change log was related to upgrades to the Windows printing experience. Now, Microsoft has shared more details about these benefits. For starters, Microsoft has renamed its Modern Print Platform to Windows Ready Print. The company believes that this name highlights its shift in strategy, which now focuses on modernizing, securing, and streamlining the printing experience for Windows devices. Some of the upgrades present in Windows Ready Print have already been seeded to customers and partners. This includes ending support for third-party printer drivers via Windows Update and transitioning towards the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) and the native Windows IPP printer driver. In line with these changes, new printer installations will default to Windows Ready Print on eligible devices starting from July 2026. However, Microsoft recognizes that not all environments will be able to migrate to this platform immediately, so it will allow users to choose between installing the printer via Windows Ready Print or the traditional OEM process. Users will be able to toggle this configuration through Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners > Printer preferences. This control applies only to new printer installations, and its functionality can also be modified via Group Policy as follows: Launch Group Policy Editor Navigate to Local Computer Policy -> Administrative Templates -> Printers Find and select 'Configure Windows Ready Print driver ranking' -> double click to open it Select 'Enabled' (if you wish to enable Windows Ready Print driver selection) or 'Disabled' (if you wish to explicitly disable Windows Ready Print driver selection). Select Apply Select OK Similarly, if you set up Windows protected print mode through the same setting in Windows 11, it will also default to using Windows Ready Print exclusively. Microsoft hopes that these improvements will help eradicate dependency on OEM-specific driver installation processes and simplify printer installations. We'll likely find out more about other tangible benefits in the coming months.
    • Hey what's about the proton vpn firefox extension ? It's not working today
    • On what though? Not Ray Tracing.
    • Agreed, but now my muscle memory immediately creates a layer for each text portion, so editing is made a little easier.
    • Happy for him, it is one of the first apps I install on a new Windows machine, been using it for years!
