Opensource Apple Program Cracks Protected AAC

Recommended Posts

An old open source program, made by apple themselves, allows for protected AAC files to be exported to unprotected AAC without any loss of quality. The program does not do this directly but after adding just 1 line of code, a very simple one at that. The source can be downloaded right off of Apple's site. The program opens the protected AAC file, after adding the 1 line of code, and allows you to export the same file with no protection. Such a huge flaw in Apple's copy protection could cause quite an uproar, especially with the RIAA who trusted Apple with selling music online first, among other competators. I am not going to post the name of this application now, as I am not sure the mods would want me to post such information.

I don't think that Apple will be too happy about that. So to save them time contacting us, and us removing the content, please don't post name/link or whatever that might lead to people being able to acquire this software :)

I figured that, that's why I decided to wait till i heard from a mod.

I could send one of you the name of the program and what code to change, just to confirm that this exists.

wow, i can't believe it only took 1 line of code to get this to work. I can confirm that this works. A friend of mine owns a mac and we tried it on some of his AAC files. Works great except you have to do it one file at a time.

hope it takes more than 1 line of code to crack WMA files

WMA was cracked a long time ago...

Nonetheless, by not giving us the name of any software this hardly qualifies as a news story.

May as well have just said "A certain software company has just had a certain product leaked by an unnamed individual onto un-named networks, leading to the intervention of an unnamed law enforcement agencry". May have come from a credible source, but in it's current state sounds like a big steaming pile of.......questionability

i searched all the sources i have and i don't see any proof of this "story".

so untill i can see otherwise i say it's 100% BS

The reason it isn't anywhere online is because no one else knows about it. My room mate discovered the workarround, I am simply posting the information here.

the open source Apple program, which you can download the sources for right off the apple developer site is called qt data exchange (qtdataexchange).

I can't post the workarround in the open forum because it would violate the rules.
