theyarecomingforyou
It's funny... some people in the other posts have been dashing to get it. Just because something is free doesn't mean it is worth getting. Also, they distribute it for FREE (legimately) on P2P programs as LindowsLive - they do this because they don't have to pay the hosting fees for the file. Actually, for total linux noobs, lindows is decent. But for total linux noobs who want to learn, redhat is good. Elliott
but for total linux noobs redhat or mandrake is better right? If you actually want to learn Linux. Lindows is some odd rip of Windows that keeps some Linux values. Quite a strange OS really. CrimsonBlur
Well, I'm downloading it, but I don't have a partition I can install it to. Eventually I'm getting an additional HD, so maybe I'll try it when I get that. This is a cool way to actually OWN the OS for free, and have all of the support, etc. Maybe when my brother gets his own computer I will install it on my Laptop. I've never used Linux before. CrimsonBlur
No support is included with the free version (I think). Yeah, that could be... but I didn't get the free version. The POINT of this thread is that these guys have a coupon you use to get the non-free version for free. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/143184-download-lindowsos-45-for-free-again/#findComment-1760100 Share on other sites
petroid
Hey. Lindows is great for inexperienced people who just use their computers for email and web browsing, and can't afford anything fancy like Windows and Microsoft Office. And since it's offered free so frequentely... ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/143184-download-lindowsos-45-for-free-again/#findComment-1760107 Share on other sites
markwolfe Veteran Posted February 21, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 21, 2004 I did the free download about a month ago. Lindows is Linux. Someone said it was a dumbed-down Windows, and not Linux. Well, it is Linux, but very simplified. to the point where you don't have to think or learn anything to run it, really... Not what I would recommend to most Neowinners looking to see what Linux is like. More like something for my mother-in-law.... If you want to see what Lindows is like, go ahead. It really isn't a bad distro for the target market (Windows newbies) that they are after. However, if you want to get your feet wet and learn Linux, I would recommend a distro such as SuSE, Mandy, Fedora or something like that... [Edit: I have been running Linux (100% single-boot) on my home computer for a bit over a year now. I installed it, found it to be polished, simplified, and not to my personal taste as an experienced computer guy.] Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/143184-download-lindowsos-45-for-free-again/#findComment-1760118 Share on other sites
Southern Patriot
Don't get to excited. Its not really linux, just based off it. Mac is more UNIX than this thing  That has got to be the most ignorant statement about Linux and Lindows in this entire thread. Lindows IS a distro of Linux. Technically, it is a modified version of Debian. How can you say that it isn't Linux? Southern Patriot
They can't even give it away. Nobody wants it. Hmm, if that's the case, why is it that every time I go to the page to download updated CD's, I usually end up at around 100+ in the queue to download it?
